Chkdsk problem

I have a Maxtor 250 GB external HD filled up with my most precious files, and all my backup. In the boot sequence, chkdsk preformed a scan of the disk (J:), and when I came into windows xp pro, EVERY SINGLE FILE ON THE DISK had been converted into a chkdsk file!

All I want to know is if it is possible to convert them back to their former state, and in that case, how?

I appreciate any kind of help here! Im pretty desperate. :confused:

By any chance, are you using a MSI K8T Neo (socket 754) mobo? I had a similar problem, but I never managed to get my data back.
