that one looks like it would work pretty well. zalman makes something similar as well.
i've never had any problems with crystal orbs either.

i put a 40mm 8CFM on it (screwed into it) now and it runs cool. then again this is only at 166mhz for now but it was warm before at that speed w/o the fan.

i thought the zalman one was anodized a gold color. but i'm sure they probably make other colors.

so the bes thins is the zalman or C-orb? Cause i tried a zalman on my 8k3a+ and it seemed top work, but im thinking id like something a bit better fot this one...
Is a C-orb better or worse....isnt there any decent copper NB coolers?

Mine gets over 60°C hot when running above 200MHz. At athe moment i am cooling it with a case fan, but i will be upgrading to the Titan CUV2AB, same one is on the Guillemot/Hercules r9700pro:
Someone needs to make a quality Copper 40MM HSF unit for NB's...screw these ORB's :D

What about the Akasa 1U one?
Would work, but it'd be nice to have something that clipped right into the 2 holes :)

Wow thats should be sufficient :)
hell my gold zalman worked ok on my 8k3a+.
U think this one is better than the C-orb? Im getting the same board and would like to know the same question :toast:
alpha has some good HS also that would work but require epoxy.
I also want to use the clips however. or at least the mount holes.

The nforce2 does get pretty warm (at least I know mine does). I have an 80mm fan blowing over the northbridge, but I plan on watercooling the NB eventually.

Nothing is overkill if it improves your OCing ;) It's not overkill IMO, because the NBs do get rather hot and water is much more effective than ikkle crystal orbs. Also, I can't stand tha noise of more fans, so water is nice for sound reasons too. It might not be to the extent of a CPU, but I'm pretty sure the better you cool it, the more stable your OCs will be and for issues such as tearing.

NB is blistering hot if not air cooling. Initially inside Prometeia with stock passive heatsink the temperature reaching 52C with Fluke thermal probe. I now have a Sanyo Denki 80mm 55cfm fan with Zalman fan arm blowing on the NB and voltage regulators and thermal probe temperature now at 32C. Also using Artic Alumina between NB and sink.

so is that titan HS better than a C-orb? is a C-orb better than the Zalman? I want a beefy HS on mine also

Zalman with a 40x40x20 fan is the best I think
I'd hafta agree at this time :)

someone really needs to make a mini slk-800 or mini sk7 , Possibly a mini swiftech 462+ lol
Guess ill just buy another zalman then..Stupid scerews always come lose while im putting the MB in for some stupid reason ...
I was thinking the C-orb migh tbe better just cause its copper, or possibly that copper orb for the 9700's. WOuldnet the GPU cooler work better than the zalman? Orb is jsut not a good design i guess, despite the materials it is made out of. (titan cuvab any good? compaired to a c-orb or zalman?)

The stock HS looks like it would work about the same as the zal man...(MY MB CAME LAST NIGHT) of coarse their tim might be §§§§ though...Whats this zalman arm thing?
I think i will remove the NB sink & get rid of their tim, and replace it with some As3...Then it should cool about the same as the zalman i would imageine, since the HS is actualy larger than the Zaly

Gotta tell ya guys:)
I've been using the copper Vantec IceBerg since my KX7....been on the KD7 and also on an 8RDA+...inside the Prometeia and it works great for me. Northbridge is only warm to the touch under stress.:)

my nb hs doesn't even feel warm really but then again i put some shin etsu thermal compound on before i started it up didn't oc yet though either

i thought i read someplace tha the C-orb worked better than the vantec solution, guess i could be wrong though...
looking at the stock cooler on the 8rda+ it does not look all to shabby at all...Big improvement over the crappy 8k3a+ NB coole, i may jsut throw some artic silver on it and see how it does...Dont have any shin etsu ....

thats pretty cool, i already have good air circulation in my case though...
I pulled off the NB sink tonight, it was attached by some weird kinda tim square that only makes 1/2 the possible contact...
Im applying As3...
I do wonder however, if i should swap the zalman NB cooler on my 8k3a+ with the stock NB cooler on my 8rda+...or would i be better off just buying a second one?

I too scraped the TIM off the nb chipset sink and applied AS3. I went to Radio shack and got a 40x40x10 fan and screwed it to the stock Epox heatsink and while I can feel a slight hint of heat now, before I would not have wanted to leave my finger there very long. I'm stable @ 200fsb w/ 2 Sammy CTL now.......goldie :D
edit: grammar, no so sure I did a decent job?

well i decided the tim was too sticky and would require some light sanding, as i sanded i noticed that the bottem was not very smooth at all as lines appeared shiny where the metal was raised (where they had done a quick lap job u could see the sand marks where the metal was raised)...the finish on the bottem rubbed right off with some 320 grit, then i went to 600 grit, now it is very very smooth and very very nice, only took about 25 minutes...Not only did i remove all teh tim but whatever finish they used on the HS & i also made it compleatly flat....
the finish on the bottem of the stock cooler hides the imperfections...applying as3 now...Never tested it before this but i figured i would do it before i set the whole thing up...

hey i know i got here a bit late but i use the evercool cu-725 to cool my asus northbridge (well im going to ;)) after talking with various people who've done it on futuremark forums, ive come to the conclusion that it works great. i havent really read the post so i don't know whats going on but i recommend for that and just modding it a bit to fit the mobo.

ok im convinced i need a titan but all the reviews i have found are in another language..
Are these thigns even available in the United States?
Ill be moving the Stock NB cooler to the southbridge since it seems to also have mounting holes for the southbridge

Randi:D That's what I'm using, and I put the little passive one on the Southbridge too. Runnin' my 2400+@ 2250MHz. on air @ 33c. Just get the copper one, not aluminum. :)

the stock HS does not fit on teh southbridge either...
the crystal orb does nto even come close to fitting on the SB... teh C-orb can be rigged to stay on the North with a ziptie, but i dont have any

Fit might be an issue but for cheap mofo's like me the $4 AMD HSF's at Newegg are going to make fine additions for NB cooling. Don't have any holes (just a funky Abit clamp on prime mobo) so it's all going to be AS epoxied on.

im not going to epoxy anything i think 1 pring and a ziptie would be enough retention. On the other hand i could just go ahead and get the titan and a zalman and both will fit...I think i finaly found the right combo...guess the iceburg would be ok too, but it looks smaller and the titan is cheaper and more cfm.
