im actually thinking of going to inthell :)
But ive never in my life owned an intel chip or mobo, so i have a few questions?
Whats a good intel mobo? Best for overclocking w/ features?
What Chip is worth it? i see the 2.26ghz 533fsb under 200shipped now, i hear the C1 core can oc past 3ghz on air?
im thinking of running that setup with a ATI 9500 pro, and Corsair 512mb pc3500 or possibly a 512mb stick of rdram if i can afford it..?
Thanks for any info!

ABIT IT7 MAX2 V2.0 : great board, combined with some Corsair PC3500 memory.
I'd go for an 2.4B with C1 stepping. More chance of hitting 3ghz with a 2.4B than with a 2.26. I don't know if those 2.26 with C1 stepping are out yet.

so B intel chips are all c1 steppings?
Edit: ok i found that out for myself..
well if i went intel id get this setup..
Abit IT7Max ver2.0 $170.00
Intel 2.4B Cpu C stepping (i hope) $193.00
Corsair pc3500 512mb $216.00
=$579.00+tax(44.87)= $623.87 (thats Alot of fing money)
This is gonna be air cooled.. so ill buy the Best sink thats out..
This is IF i can sell my Water setup, and my AMD parts. This will be my xmas gift to myself ;)

Hey Dissolved,
Albatron's a champ with me...hehehe
3ghz...pfffftt.
In all seriousness, any 845PE, and C1 cpu will do the job!

It's the PX845PEVPro, blue PCB. Informative review on www.anandtech.com
$89, works for me...

If you're looking to cut back on a little dough, go with the BE7-RAID ($125) and a 1.8 ($145). The last two setups I built with those combos both did 3GHz on air.
I actually prefer the BE7-RAID cuz I need both parallel and serial ports at times (parallel to talk to a plotter I have, serial to 'talk' to Vapochills). Plus it's almost $50 cheaper.
I wouldn't say hitting 3GHz is 'typical' with 1.8's (these were B0's, btw), but my last two did it. Really, just about every sub-2.66 chip I've gotten has hit 2.9-3.0 on air lately...B0 or C1. Intel's manufacturing must be really good at this point on the Northy's...

Well i Want to surely Hit 3ghz+ thats the whole point from going to intel. im tired of buying AMd and hoping the chip oc's well.. ive had 5 amd chips and not one gave a great oc. So i wanna try intel once and see if i get lucky.
my goal is 3.3ghz.
3.3GHz with a 2.4B and an 845PE board isn't going to happen on air. Might not even happen with phase cooling. To top that off, with the 3:4 ratio, you'd be looking at 18x184=3312, which would be DDR490...not going to happen. Hell, the 4:5 ratio with a 184 FSB would be DDR460, which is hardly a given. If you had to drop to 1:1, it'd be pointless...the performance hit is too great.
If 3.3 is the number you're after, a 2.66 or 2.8 will give you a much better chance.
