hi,

i am building a new pc and i need some help to get my final decision

CPU: LGA775 EM64T 3.0Ghz 800FSB

mobo: i can find Abit,Asus,MSI,GigaByte 915P mobos and no DFI
simple ones and 3rd-Eye , -E deluxe , pro etc :)

ram: i am planning on getting 1GB UTT(propably) or TCCC

Vga: ill get an MSI NVidia 6600 (non-GT) -- i need good linux/bsd support

PSU: ill get an enermax or ocz 480+Watts

HDD: 1raptor 36.7 (Sata) && 1 seagate 200GB (Sata)

BOARD:Heroichi Midi tower

i've read most of the 915P topics.
I am not an overclocker and the more i will get is better air cooling than the stock if it is needed.(no water or vapo :P )

I will try to go as far as i can on AIR but i will have onboard PCI TV-TUNER(i can remove this one if i want) , maybe SkyStar2 PCI and i need the sound and the NIC

This machine is intended for home/desktop use and NO GAMES and that's why there are no expensive parts.

i choose MSI 6600(instead of GB/Leadtek Asus etc..) because it is reffered as "HDTV ready"(the cheaper 6600 i could get for that) and we bought a new LCD LG 31" TV :P which is "HDTV ready".

Mostly i need some suggestions on the MOBO and the RAM part.
(i read that someone with AG8 and UTT couldn't even post :P)

edit:
Btw, how is Abit's support ?? better than Asus' ??

thnx in advance and its nice to join the community  :D

the more you try and overclock a 915 board the more frustrated your gonna get cause of the OC lock...

stick with 865/975 or 925X-XE boards for you best shots at a good OC.

OC or benches :P is not my main goal, that's why i am not getting 925X-XE(expensive) or 865/875 (no PCIe). All the rest as written in post#1

:) ;)

i decided to go with Abit AG8 - 3rd eye and a pair of 512UTT , dont know if TCCC would make it better..
Should i try the Asus P5GD1 Pro (maybe better support and quality) or stick with Abit ?

Not sure if you've already bought the ABIT, but just in case you haven't, read this article in a lot of 915 motherboards (http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?id=1443&cid=6&pg=19). Personally, I would go for the GIGABYTE, least expensive and full of feature as the others.

Just stay away from 915 chipset, if you are into overclocking.
I just change my board from Gigabyte 8I915G Pro to the Abit AS8. The board should be here next week. I can't wait to see how my 530J doing.
