Hi all,

My Pc has recently decided not to boot at all. When I turn it on I get 1 long beep (with the post code "0d" - LED on mobo) followed shortly by continuous high short beeps (with post code "41"). There is nothing on the screen.

Pc Specs: AMD 64 3000 939, Av8 3rd eye, 1536 Geil Dual Channel Value ram, 6800 XFX, 330W Truepower.

If this helps at all, just before this, my PC made a siren noise. I restarted and managed to get to windows (with the date and time erased) . I then did another resart which crashed in the DOS posting screen, with half the screen in blue. It has now gone to my listed problem above.

So far I have tried switching the RAM modules and clearing CMOS, but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Trif.

look in your mobo manual to see what the code means, that will tell you what is failing during POST.

Those ones are not in there.

maybe download the manual at the manufacterers website, that should be more up to date than what shipped with the motherboard.

how about replaceing that little watch battery on the mobo, that would seem to be one issue if ur date is messed up, and your time aswell

It is so nice having the pc back.

Just for future referance, the solution was to flash the bios. It seems so weird and amazing how the pc did it, as I put the new bios on a floppy, and it flashed it for me. How did it know what to do?....

Some of the new mobos have really easy flash things that do it in a jiffy. My friend's old computer was having a somewhat similiar problem, I updated his BIOS and now it doesn't crash when he is doing his day-long MMORPG binges.

Hehehe, I said jiffy.

No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board

One beep - board is working fine

One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU

1 short(Beep) System booting is normally

2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error

1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR

1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error

1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error

1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error

Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly

Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem

A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages

Four beeps then machine shuts down.
