Is propane ok to use when brazing? I have a benzomatic torche along with a can of propane in my garage and would like to learn how to braze. If it is not suitable would mapp be a better choice or something like butane or oxygen?
Thanks

mapp will work much better!
Propane will take longer to heat up the copper. For the beginner propane will make things harder for ya. (save the propane for the insides of your system....)
Mapp isn't too expensive luckily.

Propane won't get it hot enough. I remember trying to sweat a connection with propane.... Wouldn't even get close.

Small propane torches are barely enough for very small jobs but your much better of with MAPP or other gas mixture. My mini torch uses mix of propane, butane, propene and acetone and it works much better than regular propane/butane. I do most of my brazing with larger propane torch that connects to a larger botle via hose and a regulator, but I have a decent oxy/acet torch set that i'm going to start using as soon as I can afford to get the oxy botle for it.

you can use propylene or mapp gas. The best for this type of thing is an acetylene/air torch, turbotorch makes some nice kits. Then you can get a larger "b" acetylene tank and not have to buy tons and tons of little bottles.

You can also use propane + oxygen
It's not as hot as acet/oxy flame but hot enough for brazing. Propane is a lot cheaper.
Works a multiple better than this airtorches, I don't like them at all.
