Cascade :D
This thing is a monster!!!
I've got 2 more compressors, but they dont have any labels on them (old..) one fires up and works, but the other one, something is messed up and doesnt fire.. time to re-wire the thing probably ;)

I hate finding dead compressors :( Its a bummer. Well good luck on your project. Im sure we are looking forward to pics :)

I'm pretty sure it still works, the ac was just really beat up and im betting some of the electrical is fudged up... the fans are jammed, aswell which may be causing a problem... :slap:

So what gasses you plan to use with your cascade? Good luck on the build and keep us up to date with plenty of pictures :D
Have you built a single stage or anything else before, it may benifit to start small.

not yet, but im going very slow, and quadruple checking everything. :D
I'll probably make a single, with another compressor I have to test my first CPU evaporator and work out the kinks, etc. then revise it some for the cascade. :toast:
No, I mean like it's good to start on something that has less of a chance of killing you. All you need to do is make the wrong mistake.

like a leak with r290, it mixes with air goes to the compressor and boom!

Quadruplechecking will save his ass. We hope, we need teh newsies.

There has to be an ignition source somewhere total. For instance high pressure R1150 can be setoff by the friction of the steel wool in an homemade oil sep if the pressure is too high.

Might i make a couple suggestions.
1) Take it slow as your doing. My first attempt at a cascade ending up being not what i wanted, and was a huge mess.
2) If you care about making it in a small space (rather than a large platform). Wait till you get the main components. That way you can see how you can arrange the spacing of them, and then arrange your tubing. My first cascade was a huge pile of twisted mess. Now since i started over, i've gotten it to be much smaller and much more effecient.

that comp would hold load in a single stage for a while at constant -50-60...

 Sounds even more dangerous than I thought...

I've got over a year and a half to make this thing ;)
Gasses will be last- very last. I'll probably have my single stage done first, before this thing gets finished.

You really can't take what you are dealing with lightly. I really don't think it's a good idea to just jump in to cascade building, you should really build a single stage to begin with, but I really can't stop people...

I'll have a single stage done first, because I need to make sure my CPU evap is bug free anyways, and I dont wanna gas and regas my cascade.. so yes, I'll have atleast one single stage done by then. :toast:

build several singles before a cascade.
its hard enough to get a single stage to cool a cpu to -40c.
its alot more work than ppl really know.
if ya hanvt done that how can you expect to get stage 1 of the cascade to hold -40c to get -100c cascade.
eva if ya build it its not going to work well unless you really understand what ya doing.
single stage ya could wip up in a night. and save alot of $$ on making a cascade that doesnt work.

I've got a guaranteed A in my computer class, which takes up past half a day at school, and my teacher is even helping me with finding stuff to do this project.. I'll definatly not be doing the whole thing alone, and I've got some nice resources for help.. Not to mention nothing *else* to do... as this is my primary item of entertainment/ only thing I ahve around here to do. Tons of research, and time will be around ;)
ANyways, now on to looking into prices of mapp torches.. already got a bottle of o2.. don't want to have to go to school to use the acetlyne torch every other day :p:
