Has anyone ever used this cooler? AEROFLOW VP4-C7040
I really like the performance of overclocking but the noise is finally getting to me. Every cooler I have is a swiftech and loud as heck Delta fans. Fantastic performance, just noisy. That big copper bottom likes massive airflow. I even slow the fans down with a bay bus running 1/2 RPM on the Delta, and its still loud. LOL.
Its not time for water for me but its getting close.
I put the stock boxed HSF from Intel on the other day and ya know that stock cooler does a pretty good job. It doesnt like my system running 3G but does really good on a 2.5b up to about 2850Mhz then the heat start producing faster underload then the cooler can remove it.
Taking suggestions for MAX performance with minimal noise.
BTW its odd to hear my harddrives , they are the loudest thing in my case now. LOL.

I picked up a ax-478, and im using a 3.5k rpm sunon 80mm fan on it. I really cant give you any numbers, because my IT7 reads the temps wrong, but it does give me a bit higher of an overclock vs intel stock cooler. Still shows 74C under load though, 2.8@3.3 with 1.65 actual. Its not super quiet, but not too loud at all. Its sitting right next to me, on the table, not in a case, etc...
The heatsink is getting hotter than a mug, My fan just can remove all the heat.

I'm interested in this HSF as well, how's it going for you RacerX?

I can't say anything bout the p4 version, but the AMD version of the Areoflow is pretty nice. I am liking mine. I can remove it and apply it w/o tools! That's pretty impressive! The fan is semi-noisy, noisier than the 80mm 50CFM sunon fans I use.

Hey left, I dont have the cooler yet, it on order should be here before the end of the week. It looked like the best bet for quiet and performance. Its probably my last air cooler. Next step is water for me. :)

Wicktron, I'll let ya know around the end of the week. It looks promising.

sysfailur, I heard good things about the AMD version. I went to the local show this weekend to find some nice P4 coolers. AMD is dominate in the shows around here, still. There were lots of P4 MBs and retail P4 boxes but no real performance coolers. I held in my hand the AMD version, its quite big, and heavy. It "looks" like it would cool good.
Waiting for new parts is soooo hard. LOL. There's supposed to be a stick of PC3500 in the box to, thats what I really want.

Stock HSF from Intel box 2.53b.
Vantec Aeroflow vP4-c7040
SiSoftware Sandra 2003
To summerize the data below. The stock HSF at idle has a thermal resistance of .21°C/W, at load it has a thermal resistance
of .41°C/W, all estimated numbers. A difference of .20°C/W.
The Vantec idle has .19 - .21°C/W under load the thermal resistance is less then the stock HSF keeping the CPU cooler. At
load 133FSB or 140FSB(mild overclock) the Vantec maintains near .30°C/W. A diffence of .10°C/W. It is easy to see the Vantec
cools better under load.
