I just saw that the link was allready in the Dothan overclocking thread; just didn't look in it cause I thought this would be on the frontpage if known on Xs.
Nice to see that it allows overclocking in the bios, I just hope that the multiplier is ajustable in the bios.

NICE
CT-479 its only for asus's mobos?

No, for all 865 and 875 boards as long as the others motherboard manufactorers make a bios to support the adaptor.

Which means that it'll probably only work on some of Asus' motherboards. :p:
It's nice that it allows FSB overclocking, I was afraid that wasn't going to happen.
I think all we need to do is find a way to mod this adapter to get a higher Vcore and it'll rock. :)

Oh my god!
Pentium-M @ 2560MHz @ FSB160 -> 102.8fps
FX55 @ 2600MHz @ FSB200 -> 102.5fps
Give Pentium-M 40FSB or take 40FSB from FX55 - it would only make the P-M look stronger! I'm impressed :)

The newer bios allows more Vcore

Wow, that's just awsome.
The only thing they should have tested at anandtech would be the difference in overclocking between a s479 board and the asus board, just to see how good the traces on the adapter are.
And I'd allso like to know if the multiplier is adjustable.

Allso take a look at this nice article, I'm reading it right now: http://www.legitreviews.com/article.php?aid=181
You can bet Abit probably won't make a BIOS to work with that thingamabob. Now I REALLY wish I had a P4c800-e :dammit:
Now, I'm not familiar at all with the Pentium M but, can it actually be better for gaming than a normal P4C?

Yes, the Pentium-M is far better in gaming than a normal P4, infact it is clock for clock a little faster than an FX-55 in games, even with the low fsb.

OMFG!!! I have really been under a rock when it comes to the Pentium M...

Read the article. Right now it only works with 2 motherboards from Asus and no other motherboard company.
Vcore isnt adjustable, either is the multplier. All you can do is up the Fsb untill it becomes unstable.
i would take one of the new boards from aopen over this, unless the vcore is adjustable.

Come on, read what he wrote! :p:
Do you honestly think the adaptor is capable of detecting whether you're running it on ASUS hardware or on another board with the EXACT same chipset :p:

yes because a BIOS update is needed in order to detect the cpu & adaptor. by the way, i wonder how you mount the cooler as with the adapter it is raised?

I comes bundled with a custom cooler.

i'm wondering if the adapter will work on any board, without a bios update like mobile athlons work in desktop boards, "unknown cpu XXXXmhz".
but then again, mobile athlons only differ by a bridge, where pentium-ms are a whole different core. we can only hope

Vcore is now adjustable in the new Asus beta bios, now if the multiplier also becomes adjustable in the final bios this thing may very well compete and even beat the Venice in quite a few benchmarks.
If think if the adapter is a succes, other motherboard manufactorers will release a bios to support the adapter or even make an 865 or 875 motherboard themselves with a buildin adapter.
