As OPB shows some time ago, MSI boards feature one pci-e x16 slot plus one more x2 slot that works ok to run SLI cards.

but its not the same as 8/8 right? does it work with the latest drivers? i thought nvidia blocked all other attempts to run sli if its not 8/8 in the latest drivers?

johnny, does it work with the latest drivers as well?
and how big is the difference between 4/8(?) and 8/8? can you check with another sli board at stock speeds? :) thx a lot for the infos so far! :toast:

Sayaa you cant use this mobo to run sli with x850xt

the diference in porformance is not that big, i think in anandtech they did several tests to show the diference. (using a dfi ultra@sli)

Yes! ;)

to saaya:
n-Vidia Display Driver version locked SLi model:
71.XX already to let outside X8/X8 cancel SLI after (even if were SLI CHIPSET)
66.75 locked ULTRA CHIPSET afterwards
70.90 locks 16X/2X

You guys seem so excited about burst speeds. Take it easy - it doesn't really translate into any real-world performance ;)

But like 71.84 doesn´t work?

DFI Ultra-D modded to SLI works with all the drivers, does that one too?

If it does, the sli bridge is like $10, excellente bang for the buck, and gives u chance to use sli when you want to.

DFI Ultra-D modded to SLi success in working 71.84, because its SLi is runs the 8x+8x way,
for example like this:

But I test the 3Dmark potency actually is inferior to NEO4-F, why doesn't know? !

You´re not running sli in that bench right?

IF not, it´s because you´re only using 8x, and he´s using 16x.

Johnny,

What did you use to close the bridge for SATA2? I used a mechanical pencil and it didn't work. Did CPU-Z show a different chipset ID after the mod?

hello hurtz777!
chipset ID is A3,close the bridge in chip ....I use solder connect it! :p:

Ok so just to be sure; this mod works on DFI NF4 Ultra-D as long as I can get the SLI bridge? Has anyone been succesfull by using a pencil instead of solder?

SolidGoldstein
04-10-2005, 11:05 PM
Congrats on your Venice, but I can't believe you actualy think a pencil graphite will connect the points. Just get it soldered. I'd do it for a couple bucks, and it looks very easy on these chips. NIce big solder pads.

Does the new revision nF4 chip not work for modding? I would think that it would only work on A2, or A3 (early) revisions, but DFI builds the Ultra-D to be modded (as you can see by the two PCIe 16x slots, but maybe they stocked up on older chips???? I donno.

Fzero
04-10-2005, 11:14 PM
ya but if you solder it and the board dies for no reason he cant send it back doing the pencile trick he can just erase it ;)

SolidGoldstein
04-11-2005, 01:25 AM
There is no reason why you can't un-bridge them after it's been soldered. also no reason it would die because of this mod alone. If it works, it won't be ruining anything except your warranty. By the way, I am not interested in providing any mod services to anyone here, just using it as an exanple.

Holy :banana::banana::banana:, I'm going to get myself a MSI K8N Neo4-F, those hdd's are CHEAP! And SLI is just an added bonus.

That's about 120 euro's just for modding 3 resistors :D

Hi johnnyliu3377,

Great post, photos and mod :toast: My question to you or anyone else reading this post is; what kind of Vdimm settings are available in that K8N Neo4-F BIOS; are there any above 3.0v and if not is there a BIOS editor which would enable me to mod the BIOS so that I could get Vdimm 3.0 and above?
Concerning the SLi limitations imposed by Nvidia's latest drivers; can't they be modified with an editor? Thanks in advance!

Hello John...your thread here inspired me to go purchase the Neo4-F and I hope to have a new Venice for it very soon. I do want to ask you a couple of questions about the chipset though...

1) My chip ID is the same as yours, 0501A3. Do you know what the other serial number to the left of the ID on the chip means? I cannot quite make out the one on mine but it appears to be Q_2624.1. Do you have any info on how I can find out what this number means?

2) And another one...have you been able to completely activate Active Armor on the chipset? Not just the firewall but the complete tool. I figure it is integrated onto the chipset, do you know a way to have it activated?

3) Finally, what's your opinion of Core Cell, useful utility or bloatware?

I have more, but this will do for now. God Bless ya Johnny, and thanks for any helphttp://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=58#
