Just setup got the computer from that 99$ deal Jeff posted running D2OL. So far so good. I've got it at only 2ghz right now, its late and I don't feel like finding the limit...until later. I can't say tomorrow since its 1:29am lol

But anyway, did anyone else get that deal? If so, make sure you take off the NB heatsink and put on thermal compound. There isn't any on it :(

Here's the specs for that rig:
1.8ghz Duron (133x13.5) @ 2ghz (148x13.5) chip's locked :(
ASUS A7V600-X (not the board the deal came with, this (the ASUS) board is alot nicer...and thats saying something)
256mb of some cheap "Ultra" memory with stock timings of 2.5-3-3-6 1T (?) at 133mhz. But I had it running at 2-3-3-8 1t no problem. Haven't had the chance to tweak it out yet.
Ultra CPU cooler. Its got a copper bottom with Alu top, not half bad, just have to change the CPU fan. It doesn't cover the whole heatsink and is very loud.
4gb hard drive I had lying around.
SuSE Linux 9.0. So far the crunching is going well :rehab:

yeah, I'm interested as well. I dont think there are any other Linux crunchers here. So it should be interesting to see, the Duron shouldn't hurt production too much...and Linux I'm hoping will help. But I shall wait and see

Dont know about anything about the affect of linux but I know for a fact the Duron @ 2ghz is good for 100 a day which is a pretty sweet pick up!

2ghz is just the start, its only got about 1.6v running through it for that, and it seems like it only needs 1.55v, but too lazy to reboot again and change the volts to 1.55v lol. I'm hoping to get 2.1ghz stable at least, but i should be able to get more. :D

jjcom, what did you do to get DDOL installed in linux? I keep getting some weird error...

jjcom

I just downloaded the GUI installer and ran it from home. So I would go
cd /home/jjcom/
sh ./installDDOL.bin.

then it just went to it and was done. What error is it giving you?

have you tried to re download the file? Maybe just an error from that...what version of Linux do you have, maybe try to run as root?

I will try to redownload it and also try as root...currently using Arch Linux.

I was getting the same error when i had Fedora Core 2 loaded. I switched to Suse 9.2 and it installs with no problem. You probably need to install Java on the distro you are using..

Nice cheap cruncher you got! :)
I would lower the timings and set it to 2T just to be sure, it's not like it has much effect anyway.

shoot through some volts into ... if you can! I had a Duron stable @ 2.4 ghz albeit 1.8 volts and was stable as a rock at 2.3 no matter what.

Don't worry have plans to do that  lol All I have to do is move a jumper and the higher volt options are open to me :) I'm not running it with a case top...since it lowers my temps and the xtra noise doesn't bother me. Wonder what that thing would do with 1.8v going through it....mmmm

Alright, I've got the rig crunching along at 2.25ghz (166x13.5) Vcore is 1.75v. It seems to be D2OL stable. I moved over the jumper on the board...and rather than just change what the BIOS says, it just adds .15v on to the set Vcore. lol So on first boot it was giving the chip 1.85v. Anyway the PSU is giving me a good laugh, the higher the load the higher the 12v goes. So its at 13.05v right now...which is still safe, right? Otherwise...I've got another PSU I can use.

Update:
Alright, 2.25ghz was a no go. I wonder if it was heat tho....nothing I can do about that....so it looks like it'll be a 2.17ghz cruncher for now...maybe I can get 2.2ghz from it tho...:rehab:

2.17 ghz is a good overclock for those ..... not great but good. BTW what heatsink are you using? Didnt catch that part other than it had copper bottom and aluminum top. I need slk 900 to get mine there.

Its from a company called Ultra I think. Its just a real cheap thing

there it is, only thing I've done is take off that real small fan and put on a 80mm one.
