Typing fast causes my computer to randomly lock-up.....

Currently My computer is 110% stable doing any CPU ONLY bench/stability test like Prime95, SuperPi, Memtest, etc. I cant do video tests right now because A few weeks ago I removed my Evap and one tiny drop of water landed on the backside of my vid car and I didnt know until I turned it on.... My cheap backup 9600se Vid card runs benches fine, but SLOW so my system is all good, just the card is fried.

I can leave prime95 on 24/7 with Seti running along side it while virus scanning and Adaware scanning and listening to music while browsing the web with 5 pages up and PDF documents up. It's rock solid stable until I start typing. If I have no other tasks running and I start to type a long post and type fast, my computer will reset within 3 minutes of typing fast. It is bizare This is the 2nd time I tried writing this post, but now I'm on my backup AMD system cause I cant type a post on my P4  .

I'm using the PS2 connector and a Xenix keyboard. I dont have the driver installed for the multimedia keys, but I dont ever use them and ASCII is kinda a universal thing that doesnt need drivers.

Anyone have a suggestion? I'm kinda stumped. My system details are in my sig.

Try USB only input devices. Set your bios gate a20 option to normal instead of fast, and set down your typematic rate to the minimal settings.

Just goes to show you can type faster than that Intel CPU can handle SPL :p:

Oh, silly Q, have you tried a different keyboard?

Sounds like some fluke Windows screw up. I would first try another keyboard, preferably a USB one. Then I'd try running at stock. If nothing helps, I would try reinstalling Windows.

I had a similar problem with my logitech wireless mouse. When I pressed the scroll button on it and moved the mouse it would also reboot te pc. iritating and strange. But since the OS needed a cleanup anyway I reinstalled XP and the problem was solved.

I've reinstalled windows 5 times this last month due to corrupted OS from OCing 3 different gigs of memory. This last install (March 17th), I put everything at stock when I loaded the OS and didnt OC until I had all drivers and updates installed.

Does PS2 or USB use more system resources? I was lookin at a new logitec Keyboard/mouse combo so I guess now I got reason to upgrade :D .

I hooked up an old standard 101/102 key keyboard and the same thing happens, but it also uses PS2 connection. I dont like using USB since it uses more system resources. Currently, I dont even have USB enabled at all on my system since I have no USB devices.

Tried typematic settings and same thing, My BIOS doesnt have gate a20 option so no go there.

I'm thinking a brand new DFI 925X (XE if they come out soon), a 3.8 CPU, Mach II GT, OCZ DDRII, and a ATI X850PE would solve my problem without a doubt :D . It would probably cost less than keeping up my current system.

Anyone wanna buy a 4.5Ghz P4C800E-dlx system?? :D
