I would go for a low end 6xx and put it on a 925xe chipset for some high FSB tight timing action.

yes, it is. It's shameless overpriced, and bad value for money, but nonetheless the best desktop processor you get currently from Intel. The 3.46EE (Galatin) is still faster in a very few applications, but in most games and apps the 3.73EE (Prescott) is faster. The 3.73EE sample I have is overclocking like hell. But that might be pure luck.

if money wasnt a concern and a Intel CPU was my goal, it would be Dothan 2.13, P4P800 + Adaptor, or 3.4 EE 800 FSB version. the low multipliers, and prescott cores of the 3.46 and 3.73 just suck for me.
I'd rather have a 660 instead of either of those.

Yes, I would go with the 660 instead of 3.73EE for the higher multi which is great because the 14 multi may too low and they are the same except the multi.

I agree, and from what i have seen so far the 3.73EE's in general overclock very good!

660 over the already overclocked 3.73 anyway. The price not only sucks but is totally unjustified. The old ones had an excuse, at least Intel could say, "Look at all of the cache on that thing?"
Now there's almost NO reason for Intel to ask for extra money on this thing. Very slight mods and a higher FSB is not worth it at all. For overclockers it's a bad buy. It already takes away the 14 used by many or 14 X 266.7 = 3.73GHz. SO this is a tricked out 2.8E HAHAHAHA! So with an 18 muliplier, the 660@3.6GHz is not only a better price at around $629, you can drop it to that same 14 X, overclock and save about $400. It's not like it sucks at stock either :p:

ia agree with the dothan idea. these things are filled with potential. on a good chipset board with dual channel memory and decent cooling, you should be able to oc the livin hell out of them, and they are quite powerful to boot

OTOH, if they are speed binned, then the EE may just give more overclocking overhead if your mobo can support insane fsb

as if the 660 isn't ALSO top bin silicon??

even so...the two 3.73EE samples I had consistently overclocked higher than the 660 counterparts. Albeit the tiniest margins
e.g. On water, 1.5v, 14x multi each, 3.73EE- 4.48Ghz, 660-4.41Ghz

AFAIK, Intel doesn`t rate their CPU the same way as AMD.... They just put them at some speeds. Since all chips can do over 3.9GHz with their stock cooler, stock volts, they dont have to worry that much ATM...
But I may be wrong...

Well Charlie, not like the FX-55 is tops! 660 still has MHz overhead left. Overclocks range from 300 to 600 with air, so the top speed bin could easily be 4GHz. But would mean some serious power draw and heat.
