So Im relatively new to all this OCing stuff, so please dont flame if this has already been answered or discussed.

Like my sig says, Im running a P4 640 OCed to 3.74ghz running @ 14x266.
I just installed Half Life 2 and the rest of the Half Life games and mods. Whenever Im running this high FSB my games all run in slow motion. My mouse and freelook all work and run fine, and in real time. But whenever I see someone go by they're running really slow, and when I try to move/run I go really slow. Sometimes they skip around. Ive tried HL2, CS:source and Day of Defeat. So I took my cpu back to normal 200mhz fsb and the games run fine. I really didnt think high FSBs could effect gaming that much, I read it here and there but I never really believe it...So whats the deal? Is there a fix for this? Btw, running a Ati (saphire) x850 Xt. Any help, sugguestions, comments are welcome. Thanks.

it's not the high fsb per se, it's something else going on. Is it possible the cpu is overstressed and throttling due to too much heat from the overclock? I heard these new Pres(hot) chips have an active and intrusive throttling system when they overheat.
Someone else might be able to help you, but I can assure you that high FSB is a GOOD thing when it comes to performance.

That's definite. 250MHz+ directly affects your capability to kickass in games, at least for me on an A64. In a good way.

Anyway, I think it's a heat issue, or overvolt/undervolt issue with the chip.

Well my temps are at 45-50 full load when playing Half Life 2. My Vcore is stock at like 1.45...Maybe I should up my vcore.

Do I have to lock my PCI express down? Or is that done automatically? I really wanna run these speeds 24/7, but if I cant play games with them then I dont want to.

you can leave it auto. Asus mobo usually calculate pcie freq during post. I run 255 fsb and HL2, CS:S run fine

I just ran 3Dmark03 and 3Dmark05. They all run fine. Hl2, DoD, and CS:Source still dont work...Whats the deal...

try disabling all the video goodies and see if that helps?

Whats your AGP Aperture at? I had the same problems with high FSB's and having my aperture at 256mb. Here are a few suggestions you can try in no particular order.

1. 128mb aperture
2. Loosen RAM timings if you already haven't
3. Up Dimm voltage if you already havent.

Have you made sure the CPU is even stable by running prime95?

Your problem is definitly the CPU throttling. Try some better cooling.

It cant be CPU throttling. In this OC, Ive ran 3Dmark03, 05, Super Pi, and Prime 95 all stable with load temps no greater than 50 degrees, if that.

I dont have AGP, Im using a PCIe board, Asus P5AD2-E.
