Ok so as ive been working on this system of mine ive of corse come across the age old question of Intel vs AMD but have never seen this question asked..

Disregarding real world usage and Just focusing on benchs/raw performace/overclocking potental which platform is "easier" to overclock Intel or AMD Assumeing a identical system setup exept for mobo/memory/cpu and also prehaps keeping to the same manufacture for the mobo to (DFI as an example as they have boath a NF4 and 925X board with a very good OCing reputation)

From what ive read there are more variables involved in AMD OCing Compared to Intel, but the Intel side has the disadvantage of non-unlockable multipliers on all but the top or near top tier CPUs but i could be wrong ?

not that i have any actual experience in either intel or a64 overclocking but i'd say intel overclocking is allot easier with its lack of htt, vid, and all that confusing crap, hell you don't even have to worry about the multiplier! but i'd say a64 will take you further as far as performance, well in gaming atleast. also no Intel chips are unlocked accept engineering samples(my uncles' got a 3.6 engineering sample), my $.02

It's not like it's hard to get an ES.

Every few weeks a different one pops up, they usually go for less than retail too.

bull. many of the new 775 mobos have a way to unlock the multi thanks to the speed step thing in the newer chips. also, abit somehow found a way to "trick" certain revisions of 3.4 pressies (socket478) into being able to select either the default 17, or 14. i will say OCin intels seems easier than A64s, but i also agree that if you can get a good OC on an A64, its insanely fast, im convinced it takes a 5 ghz P4 to compete with a 3ghz A64FX.

Y'all say having those extra options to worry about when overclocking are bad. Maybe it's just me but I think fooling with that stuff is half the fun.

Its as simple as this,

High MHZ = Intel
High performace = AMD

This argument has gone on since the first AMD chips came out to rival Intel it will always go on and it really down to personal choice, I used both platform and overclocked em both and tbh my decision as to what to buy is usually a matter of what i feel like using at the time. Flip a coin and choose your platform :)

well thats crap...back in the 1ghz and sub days, it was more or less neck and neck in performance/mhz. Only difference was mhz themselves. Then intel went with netburst, and AMD went with axp, and everything changed.

Oh. In your third paragraph are you talking about ease of overclocking?

news to me

i totally agree but he's asking whats easier
