Hi,
I am plannin' on buildin' an new 775 rig, since I kinda get bored with all the AMD stuff. Since my last Intel was a PIII, I am seriously lost in the Pentium-World.
Focus of the new rig should be on: Overclocking, Stability, Noisereduction
Now - I heard some rumors about a Dothan-Adaption for 478. If this is already a good option, I'd go fot that as well, since my Laptop-Dothan purely rocks and I love those CPUs.
If not - please help me out here.
The new Mobo should have PCI-E, since I sold my AGP-Card and already bought a 6600GT (PCI-E). Plus - I do have nice DDR1 RAM (UTTs and 5B-Gs) but i would switch if necessary.
Now - which Mobo and CPU to get? By gathering some information, it seems as if the ASUS P5GD1 and the 530J seem to be a nice combo, what do you think? Any better suggestions?

DFI 925X-T2 is nice supposed to be the best for OC on 925X, but you CANT go higher then 299FSB... Normally it shouldn't be a problem too. If you think it is a problem, you can take the AA8XE Fatal1ty or non-Fatal1ty.... I haven't read much about the ASUSs, but I know that on most the OC could be better, but there is ALOT of great features such as WiFi....
And I highly recommend a 6XX series CPU. Really cooler, so you can afford to buy a very silent heatsink without loosing much OC, and 64-bit support, 2Mb.... It seems that they are better in 3DMark then any AMD... Check both of LardArse Thread. 3.73EE in 3DMark section and AA8XE Fatal1ty 425FSB in Intel section.
And I may know some very good RAM's for VERY cheap. I just need to be 100% sure...

Hey,
thanks.
Now - the 925 from DFI is way too expensive. I'd have to spend around 200,-€ for the board, and for that price I could probabaly get the new AOPen Sonoma Board (when it arrives). What about the 915 from DFI? How would u rate that one?
RAM: Thanks for you offer, but since I haven't even decided on the new board, this is kinda early. But - we'll see, alright?

??? that board is around 190$ US... Actually I dont really like recommending 915 chipset... FSB is pretty limited.... I think the DFI TAG does only 280FSB MAX? and with a 630...

Trying to respect the price, those are two boards I would recommend, although, None knows much about the ECS yet.... So I would recommend the AA8XE over that one. And you SHOULDN'T have problem with chipset limitation....

I'd say get the ASUS P5GD1, I myself am looking to get a new LGA775 set up but with a P4 6xx and DDR1, of course w/a 915P express mobo. I don't think DDR2 is as fast as it should and DDR1 seems to offer better performance or same as DDR2, excpet DDR2 cost more.
For my choice of motherboard, I'll chose the GIGABYTE "GA-8I915P Duo Pro(REV 1.1)" 915P Chipset Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-249&depa=1), only because I didn't have a good experience with ASUS motherboards in the past, also, recently I contacted ABIT's tech support via e-mail and phone call and I never got an answer from them so those two brands in my book have the last place for a choice of motherboards I would consider.
I'm not looking to overclock in the 800mhz to 1200mhz more out of the processor but If I get a stable 600mhz more or less with the GIGABYTE motherboard, I'd be happy with it.

People have too much prejudice about DDR2.... DDR2 is better then you think, don't worry.... I would recommend going all the way Intel LGA and not partially;).

Can you show me this cheap DDR2 you've been talking about?

I'm sorry, I really don't want to recommend them till I tested them because I am not 100% sure... But I will do when I get my motherboard... Which should be this week... sorry...

ANY of the Intel based chipset DFI's motherboards are 04A or 04B compatible at all?, I know my DFI 915P-TAG was a huge disappoinment for my P4 630 set up, due to the fact of incompatibility. I think, they're too busy partying about their line of nForce 4 SLI motherboards and completely forgot about their "other" line of motherboards. Oh well!

Hmmmm looks like there is no "Over-the-Top"-Rig available right now. I guess I'll check out the ASUS Board then and wait for further details on the new Sonoma-Dothan possibilities.
Which btw would be a kick-ass combo :slobber:
