I just sold off the rest of my junk (OLD HDDs, 9600 Pro, AthlonXPs) and wanna get something other than this 1Ghz PIII laptop. Which does rock though ;)

But I am so lost on what to buy, AMD 64, Intel 6XX, Intel Pentium M, or wait for the next series from Intel?

I like the fact that Intel uses DDR2, but is it really worth it right now?

A64 all the way, worth waiting for the venice / FX-57 though before you go upgrading, they are out very shortly

You just insulted a vast majority of Xtreme members :censored: .

That's a lame thing to say, especially to someone who's asking for advice.

I agree with RAndomaN hold off for the new venice core a64's and go for the new Sapphire Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard, both should be out late april.

If you go Intel the P4 660 looks to be the right choice now coupled with a DFI 925 or 915 based mobo.

DDR2 will cost a premium over DDR .Unless you get high speed + low latency DDR2*$$$*, DDR will match it for performance.

Nanobot, relax....it's all in fun. I do have to disagree on the Sapphire Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard though...first generation motherboard with first generation maker spells trouble.

Sapphire is not new to mobo manufacturing.

And the board was designed and tested*at the ATI texas OC event* with the input of a select few top oc'ers.

It's gonna be a solid mobo ;I saw a early ATI reference Xpress 200 sample running fine last fall.

And I am relaxed.Your original comment seemed reminescent of the ones that started the flame wars Saaya had the unplesant task to moderate in the past.

I've seen benches that show the Pentium M beating a winnie clock for clock, but Pentium M would severly limit your bandwidth (533fsb)

A64 would prolly be the best, but as always $ is the deciding factor.

Uh...then you need to relax more :D FCG himself knows that if AMD was for the weak then there wouldn't be 100 ppl on avg looking at AMD forums and an average of 10 at any one time on the Intel side.

Secondly, I was beginning to like the SS game :(

And lastly, in relation to this thread, pls specify your price range for yer entire rig and we'll be more specific - there is a world of difference between recommending a Venice/2mb presscot or an FX/EE.

IMHO, a 3200+ or 3500+ venice, Dfi nf4, and a pci-E vid card within his price range, will make one heck of a rig.

What will venice offer over the current Winchesters? Will the lower models, i.e. 3500 have 1MB L2?

Nevermind, just remembered SanDiego. Bah me

better on die memory controller, sse3, .90nm, and Possibly able to run 4x512mb

The 3800+ tested in the forums did quite well. i think after the chips mature they will be Alot better then Winnies. and Winnies weren't that great anyways.

If they ship April 4th, I dont wanna wait for a 2nd gen stepping, that could be May -> Summer, awwww

BTW where is that 3800+ thread at??

even if they ship out on the 4th, they might not be for sale till a week or two later. but then again newegg always seems to surprize me..

Waiting for the venice cores would probably be your best bet. Couple that with a DFI board and throw in which ever vid card best fits your budget.

Intel is good for multitasking and some other applications which I'm sure your aware of but AMD just straight up beats them in the gaming arena.
