I downloaded D2OL yesterday, and I think I'm already an addict.... So far, I have a 3000+ NewCastle and a 2800+ Barton running 24/7, my 3400+ Claw most of the day, and I'm going to get a 1GHz AMD up 24/7 by the end of today, hopefully.

Whats next? The stickies, ofcourse.

Welcome to the team

Out Of intrest, how do we justify running so many machines taking up so much power simply to crunch more?

I mean dont get me wrong i think D2OL is one of the better reasons and worthwhile causes, although id love to run loads of machines iv decided to cap it off at 2 for 24/7 usage simply because any more and id feel guilty about the environment.

I dont think anyone intended it to get to the level it is now, where so many people have dedicated computers simply to run these projects. Now im not flaming or even judging anyone im just intrested in knowing what the feeling is towards the subject or even if it isnt an issue

All of these rigs are going to be running some where, for some one for some thing anyways... all the parts in them were made for 1 reason... to run... so whether its you runnnig them or the crazy guy 3 houses down looking at animal fetish running them... they are going to be running.. so why not use them for something useful?

I live in Indiana... it's too damn cold here in the winter! I figure if I can create a little global warming it will be warm year round and Indiana will be beachfront property!

 no but seriously... Computers don't pollute... the power plant's do. Even then... the pollution that is coming out of a power plant is getting worked down to where it isn't really a concern. But for any of this to matter you have to buy into the hype of global warming. And I don't because I know the true science of it. I also have a pretty good feel about what the environmentalist are truly after.

The worlds much more likely to be destroyed by disease than by I giant title wave that hits New York, or a dozen tornadoes that hit LA, or by Hail the size of basketballs in Tokyo... Followed by a handful of super cells that cover the earth in 20Ft of snow... forcing us to seek refuge in Mexico (How weird would it be to see thousands of Americans illegally crossing into Mexico  ) Gotta love "The Day After Tomorrow"!

But its for a good cause. You and the next generation could die of an anthrax attack or something. Use power-saveing lamps throughout your house ect to save electricity another way.

hmm, well i cant say i agree with your opinions except enzoR and if i had to justify it i would go for that reason but still i think its a pretty poor use of the power, i have no problem if its a machine thats left on for other uses that uses spare cycles, but to run a machine 24/7 to run the programme seems insane. I can see why people do it of course, im very much caught between wanting to gain places in the team and not wanting to waste energy. Anyway thanks for giving me your views its a bit of an eye opener.

Their all stock, but you just wait - I have a 1GHz Thunderbird and a 2200+ Thourbread just stitting here....

Edit: And I noticed. Like, Friday I saw you were at 3 ahead on the day. Since then I've been scrounging parts trying to get these two extra chips running, and getting my ClawHammer running more often.
