Ok, Earlier this week I started a thread on this but I didn't think to ask about needing new ram. Not much help in the last one anyways.

Specs:
Soltek K8TPro
Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester CBBID 0504 with the stock hs/fan
2 x 256 pc-3200 One Corsair and One GeIL in dual channel
9800 Pro with an XT bios @ stock

The highest speed I can get this thing to is 1979 mhz. HTT and Memory frequencies are both at 220mhz. My cpu voltage is 1.5 and the rest are at default. My ram timings are 2.5-4-4-9 but changing them doesn't seem to help or it won't boot.

I have trouble if I raise the the FSB any higher than 220. I can boot at 225 but as soon as windows loads my video card freaks out. VPU recover kicks in and it runs in software render mode. Super Pi doesn’t work either.

I tried setting the max mhz for the ram to 166 but I could still only get to 220 on the HTT.
Nothing is overheating so my only uneducated guess is that my ram is causing this. I was going to purchase a waterblock for my 3000+ but I don’t want to if the highest I can get on air is only a 150mhz oc.

Now I really have no idea what to do next.

If it is the ram could I get some suggestions? I really only need 512 and my budget isn’t exactly…ready to see any more purchases unless I sell off my old hardware.

Spi 1m = 42s...once I can't get it again. 43 is the avg.

hah, figures. I've had both the sticks for quite awhile. Should I try getting higher with the just Corsair stick in?

:D Yep - in my opinion the CORSAIR is the better RAM, just try to find out what kind of CORSAIR You've got: 3200C2 or 3200LL, which revision ?

Maybe You're on BH-5 and even don't know it......... :toast:

I took the stick out and its 3200c2 v1.1. I would agree with you about it being better ram. I used to play battlefield a ton and I needed more ram so I went for the cheap GeIL.

:D Good RAM - WINBOND BH-6 chips.........., try 2-2-2-5 and set them under voltage mate - BH-6 also loves volts.... :toast:

:D Ahhhhhh, as I told You - step by step You'll get a better system now.

The whole WINBOND BH- series is specified up to 3,6 volts - so take a look if the booster is workin' on Your board.

BH-6 at 2,7 is as if You drive a Corvette 20mph each day........

haha, thank you sir. I have my vDimm at 2.8 and the ram is running nicely at 2-2-2-5. :)

Now should I try raising my fsb/htt again?

I upped my fsb/htt to 225. Had to set the ram timings to 2-3-3-6 though.
EDIT:
It can get 42s in 1m spi now
2070 mhz 1.55v
230 htt/fsb
ram is 2-3-3-6 & vdimm @2.8

problem is as soon as I log into windows vpu recover kicks in and I'm running in software (read: horrid) render mode.

:D One hour ago You have been completely desperated - now things have changed but don't expect too much yet.

What You need is more Vdimm - try to find a mod for Your board or go for the booster if it works on Your board and try to catch a good BIOS mod....,

You'll see somethin' like 240 - 250 HTT 1:1 with 2-2-2-5 is possible, maybe even more.

haha, good point. Thanks for your help, I'll look into the voltmods and boosters.

still this 3000+ beats my 1700@2.1ghz so I should be satisified
