I am using Prime95 and 3dmark loops to test stability. I have heard that Prime95 doesnt work well with newer stepping A64 cores. Is this true? I am stable at 270HTT 2.43ghz but I can boot fine into windows at 280, 290 HTT but not Prime stable. Any tips. Below is a link to my gallery of my overl:banana::banana::banana::banana:ing pics. THanks.

Personally, I could care less about P95. I fail on P95 all the time when I overclock, but yet my system is rock hard stable.

What do you use then? SuperPi?

You will get many opinions on this subject. I do pifast and Super pi for quick reference when I am trying to my stable point. Now, because I am gamer and not a benchie fanatic, I use a long gaming session to test for stability. I will start gaming for a couple of hours, then minimize, and open 3 or 4 windows, just to see how it handles the extra load.

If you do a lot of video editing, then use that to test your stability. So on and so forth, what ever your into, use it for stability testing first.

run Prime95*2 for 12hours or Prime95+SuperPi+memtest or Seticmd 24hour+ Prime95

SuperPi32MB as a preliminary test and then a 3DMark2001 (using all software rendering) overnight (8HOURS). If that works I am happy. Now, if I was Folding then a prime95 12 hours test will be my priority.

I have heard that Prime95 doesnt work well with newer stepping A64 cores.

I've found that with my winnie prime would fail at anything over 275/280htt when everything else would pass, Same mem/psu/video card & HD's but with a Newcastle would pass prime well over 300htt. :2cents:

occt finds instability waaaaaaaaaaay faster then prime (10 mins occt vs couple of hours prime)

so i use occt while quicktesting
and a night of prime when i wanne know sure...

i also do a night of memtest and a couple of 3dmark05 runs

Same here. Prime95 gives errors above 2.5Ghz but the system is stable at 2.6-2.7.

By the way, where can you get occt?

I found only 1 link in google but it doesnt work
ftp://ftp2.ocbase.com/ocbase/OCCT/OCCTv0.71.exe

I don't check for stabilty, I OC my cpu, then I work normally, I don't care if it's not 100% stable, if it's stable enough to do what i want, I think that's stable :D

use s&m if you have prosb with prime, s&m is great to get your cpu cooking and most of the time an oc is unstable its because of heat... :)

MemTest x86+, a kernel compile, SuperPi for Linux 32m, an endless mathematical loop in a shell script.

Very interesting. I get that over 275 also. Thanks for all the input guys. It helped alot. As for CC Generals that games craps out on all kinds of issues. I love the game but it has some of the worst programming code.

Hmm prime shouldnt post errors on a stable PC, if there are errors in prime, pc isnt stable. I dont want to say u should use prime for testing stabilty. But stable means everything stable.
