View Full Version : Passing down wisdom on non locked AGP / PCI buses

Hello All,

I have an Abit KX7 and I really like it. Of course it has the problem of the maximum dividers being 5 for PCI and 2 for AGP.

I have some Corsair 3500 memory in there for some +200 action, but when I get to 200 fsb the AGP acts up. When I get to 195 FSB the network card acts up.

I haven't even got to the point where I'm worried about my northbridge acting up :D

Any thoughts on the matter, apart from suggesting I buy an nforce 2 board ? I've only had this Abit board a few months and it seems too nice to upgrade so quickly.

Regards

Andy

Well, as far as the nic goes, I hear the Intel nics are the best for handling higher bus speeds. Maybe that would help you get it up a little higher.
As far as the agp goes, I'm not really sure what to advise you to do there. Sorry, but hopefully one of the others around here can have some better advise for ya there;):)

Other than that, I recommend a good nf2 board;)

I'm consistantly running a kr7a above 200 FSB.

Toasted my Intel Pro100+ early in my use of this board at about 190 FSB, so I switched to a DLink 530TX NIC. Hasn't failed or even shown signs of stress at up to 211 FSB. Vid cards holding me back from higher speeds.

Using either of Visiontek GF2 or Abit GF3, NP up to 210. Burning in my GF3 now to try to get it to tolerate over 210, getting severe texture corruption at 210 and no video at 211.

Sound via Philips Sonic Edge is fine to at least 210.

With my 4:2:1 divider and the 5:2:1 divider on the kx7, these models of PCI and AGP cards should work well for you.
