I relize it may reduce an overclock, but what I want to know is have anyone tried it? I plan on buying 2x256mb LE right now and another 2x256mb LE in a few months. Will this lower my overclock quite a bit? I plan on running around 290-300HTT at 1:1, something i know the 2x256mb can do, but what about 4x256mb?
Thanks :toast:

You would have to drop to 2T cmd.
On my 754 system I can rum similar speeds with 3 sticks as I can with 2 if I go to 2T, but I only have 3 dim slots,
4 sticks may mean you loose some mhz as well.

You have the same board as me with 3 DIMM...
What board are you going to use to run 4 sticks?

AFAIK, it's impossible to have more than 3 sockets on any s754 board. I don't know what he's talking about... That's besides the point that he has same board as both of us, and it only has 3 dimm slots.
Well, maybe he's upgrading, so then it's possible... but 4x256 is worse than 2x512. Too much strain on the memory controller.

Never said I'm using this board ;)
I'm going to be using an epox 9N3ADJ 939 board

The memory controller is integrated on the chip itself, you can use any motherboard you want, and you will still have the 2T issue.
Venice is suppoisidly going to fix this. Im with him also, just grab 2x512, and if your overclocking you probally should take a look at the cheap VX sticks. As far as the 300HTT mark your looking probally at TCCD, and im shure you know how expensive those are.
Now the 2x256 will allow you to hit higher HTT, but you still only limited to 512mb ram total. Also, i dont know what the voltage on the VDimm will allow you to go up to. The board may not even be compatible with the booster. I really wish someone can post how much ram timeings make a diffrence in the usaul suite of benchmarks, and not bandwith only.

I can't grab 2x512mb, I don't have enough money (barely enough for 512mb). I plan on getting TCCD because it loves lower voltage and the epox board only supports up to 2.8v on the ram. I'll probably go with 1x512mb corsair 4400 with TCCD brainpower at monarch for $129, and get another stick later. Anyone had experience with those?

Thanks...
I may just go with pc4000 that'll hit 270fsb on 1:1, that way i can run the 9:10 divider and if/when I hit 2.7ghz on my new winnie (dont get into the whole new cpus being bad overclockers thing, I have it covered :p), I can run 9:10 and still have a 270FSB, which isn't bad at all. For $160 i can get 2x512mb Geil pc4000 which alot of people seem to be hitting GOOD overclocks at 2.5-4-4-7, so I think I may do that.
edit : looks like people need 2.8-2.9v to do so though...eek...
