Do you know if I can alter the command rate from 1T to 2T in my 8RGA+ bios? Anyway, this looks interesting, I'm definately going to download it and have a play even if I don't end up doing any actual bios modding. Cheers!:toast:

Hi.

May you able to tell me more details about your board?
Is it the "EPoX 8RGA+" ?

Is it possible to add CAS2.0 timing option to Albatron's KX18DS Pro motherboard BIOS? (only CAS2.5 and CAS3.0 are available in stock bios files).

man, I cannot seem to open anything with this bios collection.

I tried Asus, DFI, Soltek and a few other companies...
all these programs seem to open are rom files, and I can't find a single Bios thats a rom file. only videocards are rom files these days it seems... but these programs aren't meant for those...

so I just can't seem to find anything to mod with these programs.

Hi.

@andlcs
The BIOS files are protected anyhow.

I tried all versions of ModBin(6)...:

ModBin6 2.00.00
ModBin6 2.00.00 beta
ModBin6 1.00.48
ModBin6 1.00.38
ModBin6 1.00.37
ModBin6 1.00.12
ModBin6 1.00.03

ModBin 4.50.88
ModBin 4.50.82a
ModBin 4.50.80c
ModBin 4.50.77
ModBin 4.50.76
ModBin 4.50.75
ModBin 4.50.66
ModBin 4.50.64
ModBin 4.50.63
ModBin 4.50.60
ModBin 4.50.58
ModBin 4.50.36

...but everytime I get "!! BIOS version not 6.0 !!" or "Stack overflow" .
I never have seen such a "protected" Award BIOS before.
So it is currently not possible to edit the BIOS Setup Menue of the Albatron KX18DS Pro BIOS.

PS:
Albatron's FTP server hosts full featured versions of different programs. :)

@Kunaak

Which BIOS do you want to modify?

All.

but I would settle for modding my AS8 bios for now.
so far, I have never been able to open a LGA775 bios with any tool.

Hi.

You told about there would be nothing in the BNOBTC to modify your BIOS files? :)

For example CBROM32 is able to modify the modules inside the Abit AS8 BIOS file

Now I am able to modify the BIOS Setup Menue and to unhide new features/options in both BIOS files: :)

where should i start looking to get the new dfi 250GB nf3 beta bios 4.0vdimm unlocked. the bios is the 4/15/05 and which of your tools will even let me dump or look at anypart of the bios?

Borg Number One

Hi.

To modify "Award BIOS"/"Phoeanix-AwardBIOS" files,
you need:

ModBin(6) for BIOS Setup Menue modification and
CBROM/CBROM32 for BIOS module modification.

Common/often changed, replaced, removed & updated BIOS modules are:
BIOS logos
RAID BIOS
VGA BIOS (on Board graphics cards)
Network BOOT ROM

The DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb mainboard has a nice BIOS logo :) :D

Hi.

In the next days I will publish a new release of the BNOBTC. :)

Well, in the DFI LANPARTY Mainboards there already should all menues visible.

I like the BIOS menu when I opened the BIOS file with ModBin.

Well, I am also able to simulate Award / Phoenix-AwardBIOS files and their BIOS Setup Menues. :)

ya man your like totally helping me out alot here... thanks again..
now.. i have dumped that lplogo.bmp and have modified it...
but.. the file is 900kb... is there a tool in your collection to convert it to proper specs? and what version of cbrom should i be using to re-add the logo once ive got it modified?

Borg Number One
05-11-2005, 11:23 AM
Hi.

here are some undocumented facts:

CBROM Ver. 2.19 and above extract and convert the logo module(s) to "normal" bitmap file(s).
CBROM versions lower than 2.19 just extract the AWBM/EPA logo module(s).

CBROM32 adds a kind of a protection to the extracted and converted BIOS logo.
-->The images has "stupid/weird/noisy lines" in it.
-->because of copy rights and stuff[...]

A further good method is using ABR G2 - Advanced BIOS logo reader
This program is able to view and convert many different Award, AMI, Phoenix,...-BIOS logo formats.

So, if you want to have an extracted, but unmodifed BIOS logo than take CBROM 2.19 and/or above (except the CBROM32 releses).
"cbrom <biosfile> /logo extract"
Or take an earlier version (e.g. CBROM 2.15) and convert the extracted logo with the help of ABR G2.

To modify the "new" BIOS files, espacially DFI LANPARTY BIOS files, I would prefer CBROM32.
-->While adding BIOS logos with the help of CBROM32 they will not be changed with stupid lines.
This just happens while extracting them-->Copyright reasons...

Why did you mention that the BIOS logo would be 900KB huge?
It size is just 300/301KB.

][nSaNe
05-11-2005, 11:51 AM
sorry i got the img dump from awdmod or something like that.. and it converts it to windows bmp... hmm it was that file that was 900kb..
also.. it seems that with the unlocked vdimm selections... they dont actually change the voltages correctly.. i get 3.2v in menu = 2.5 3.3 in menu = 2.6
and 3.4 in menu = 2.7... and so on and so on.. and 4.0v = 3.2v
i dont understand.. i guess there must be more to just unhiding the menu options or something.,

][nSaNe

hmm so i guess i cant get this bios modded anyways... that sucks
i unhid the options... like it said 3.2v Not selectable.. and so on all the way up to 4.0v... i changed the value to selectable... and flashed.. and nope it didnt work.. 4.0v selected gives 3.2v which is actually higher than the 3.1 of the original bios. but still no go.. i borked my bios after i tried the secon attempt.. got to goto a buddys to hotflash and then i guess ill research some other method to get the bios modded... or ill just mod the board.
i dunno but still man thanks for the effort your putting forth

Thank you for this excellent collection! Now I've got nice custom logos and boot up screens.

I am curious to know though, when will version 6 be coming out? I await the new version of modbin.

Also, for those of us stuck on 56k, it would be nice to have a "lite" version or something with only the newest versions of the tools.

Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to make this!

Hi.

You have to use a Hex Editor if you want to extract, edit and reinsert the
ncpucode.bin module.

look for ncpucode in the bios file.
The amount of selected bytes (the size) is/was already displayed by CBROM.

Hi.

You are right.
There is a "Stack overflow" message while opening the BIOS file.

It seems to be there is a still newer release of MODBIN release necessary.
Even newer than MODBIN6 2.01.01 (6/25).

Because of Asus's eMail - support is not really good,
we need a BIOS file from another firm.

A "non-Asus"-BIOS file is necessary,
which has the same symptoms while open it in/with MODBIN6 2.01.01 (6/25).

If you can find such a BIOS file, then please let me know it.

Leni,

all I wrote about modifying the "(SP) NCPUCODE" module is just theoretical stuff.
All my mainboards, which I have use an AMD processor, so I never did a
"(SP) NCPUCODE" module modification.

Furthermore, CPU microcodes / CPU micro code updates do not need to have a size of 2KB.
They also can be 3KB, 5KB or 7KB.
You just need to check the first bytes of the first CPU code,
then you will find the others.

However, there are two ore more positions with checksums inside the BIOS file.
They have to also be fixed/corrected after the BIOS modification.

Try to use the BIOS Information Tool(Twinssoft, StarGaz0r)

http://www.stargaz0r.nm.ru/files/bit14.zip
to check the different checksums inside the BIOS file
before and after the modification.

:D Yes, I used an online translator :slapass:

With a hex editor I tried to insert some microcodes in my IC7 Max3 (Abit)

I copied the the 2KByte cpu code parts...:
+ 0f41 ID 0D
+ 0f41 ID 12
+ 0f43
+ 0f44

...from this BIOS file (http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/75TLD325.zip)
into my IC7-Max3 bios (ftp://ftp.abitshop.com/pub/bios/ic7-max3//ic7p18.exe)

After the modification, CBROM displays the new added/replaced CPU codes without problems.
The size of the listed "NCPUCODE.BIN" & the size of the BIOS.bin file(524.288 Bytes)
are accurate.

http://www.directupload.net/images/050717/temp/hVe6QSeh.jpg (http://www.directupload.net/show/d/396/hVe6QSeh.jpg)
However, the FLASH program brings an error message:
This file is not a correct Bios file!

I used "UltraEdit-32" to copy the cpu codes from one BIOS file to the bios file for/of my mainboard.

I do not have really much skills and knowledges about this kind of BIOS modification.
I think, there are more steps necessary.

So, it would be nice if you could help.

No you can't use different BIOS from different brands, doing so will damage your hardware.

Hi!
First of all I would like to say im very impressed by these programms! :slobber:
Ive been searching a while for a way to make a AGP/PCI divider, my Mobo is an Asrock K7S8XE+. It divides nicely with 6 till FSB 200mhz, but I would rather have a divider of 7/8 so I could go till FSB 233/265. Out of the Datasheet I could see that the IC supports this, but Asrock didnt want to use this feature, dont ask me why though!

here is the datasheet: http://pdf.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/103135/ICST/ICS952703.html

I know nothing about bios modding, but isnt it like programming a PIC? You can set ports high or low, and in that way you could tell the ICS 952703 to "activate" the 7/8 divider, right?

Well then this means I can't run Vdimms higher than 2.85V (as my K8N Neo Platinum supports it as max) :(

There must be some way to include higher Vdimm in BIOS

How hard would it be to use these tools to add Newark / mobile CPU support to the Epox 8KDA3J and 8KDA3+? Is it possible? modbin6 already allows me to unlock the hidden 1.8V VCORE option in the BIOS. The latest BIOS has already been updated to support Rev. E CPUs. I'd like to pick up a Newark 4000+ when they are released.

Borg Number One,

mfg Leni

Leni,

all I wrote about modifying the "(SP) NCPUCODE" module is just theoretical stuff.

There's nothing hidden actually, as per removing logo, it is quite easy to do, just download awdbedit.

By the way, this motherboard is actually Jetway N250DAG.

You can download BIOS A03 here:

are all mobos from evga built by them? i didn't know that o.O it was hella cheap and my former chaintech had to be rma'd so i gave it a try, actually like it, only thing that bothers me is that clockgen hangs on abrupt HTT speed changes, if i go 10 by 10mhz it will go stable up to 300, but if i try to raise it from 200 to 250 for instance, its instant crash... That's why I was looking for FSB spread spectrum, maybe that could be causing this

Is it safe to flash that file to test it on my evga?

Hi.

Old MODBIN6 releases can not open new* Phoenix - AwardBIOS files even the mentioned/quoted mainboards and their BIOS files crash old MODBIN6 releases.

So, only new MODBIN6 releases (e.g. 2.01.01 (06/25)) are able to open such BIOS files.

However, the mentioned Albatron BIOS file does not have any further option to unhide except:

+ IDE Channel 3 Slave (including sub options)
+ CPU Thermal-Throttling
+ MAC Media Interface
+ ACPI function
+ CPU Warning Temperature
+ Shutdown Temperature

If you still interested in getting the latest available/known MODBIN6 release then just let me know.

To run modbin without problems in Windows 2000/XP/9x check these threads:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=45538
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63210

*=MODBIN6 versions can open "Phoenix - AwardBIOS" files, but there seems to be "new" kind of "Phoenix - AwardBIOS" files.
Do not ask me, how "new" the mentioned BIOS files are/have to be
that they cannot be opened with old MODBIN6 releases anymore. :)

If you can figure out the characteristics of the new Phoenix - AwardBIOS files then let me know.

I know that you come from Germany, you also wrote a private message in German.

But your simple phrase (mentioned/quoted above) shows that your German skills/knowledges are not really good.

Mixing German words/phrases with English words/phrases is a signal for not really smart and intelligent persons. ;)

But doing following is recommend:

The more users write mails with wanted BIOS features to ASRock the better are the possibilities that ASRock will publish BIOS updates with more options/menus.

Hi ReelMonza,

I already know that there are mainboards/BIOS files which have troubles with MODBIN6 2.01.01.

It seems to be that there are newer MODBIN6 versions, but because DFI's bad technical support I was not able to get a newer release of MODBIN6.

Hi Borg Number One,

Glad to see you helping out so many folks here :toast: Maybe you can help me too.

I have a Foxconn NF4XK8MC(nforce4 4x) mobo with phoenix- awardbios 6.00PG - i tried modbin6 20101 - but frankly i am not sure what i can hide or unhide as my mobo is a budget mobo.

Also one strange thing i noticed in this demo image http://www.dstyles.de/bios/images/borgbios/biosview/biosview-20100-06-04-02-abit-ic-7g.gif you posted is, i have identical setup except i dont have the "SoftMenu Setup" to adjust my Vcore & Vdimm without which my o/c is handicapped. So any help from you is appreciated, tell me if you need more info.

The bios file can be found here http://www.foxconnchannel.com/biosbase/NF4K8MC.zip. Thanks, looking forward for your reply.

the ASUS P4C800-E Dlx BIOS 1024 beta does not contain any further menus/options which could be unhide.

Thanks for looking BNO.

That is quite unfortunate. It seems that we're only able to run the ram faster than the CPU when the FSB is below 200MHz then. At 200MHz and above we're stuck with a 1:1 divider.

I've heard of people flashing a P4P bios into the P4C (to get the better divider), but that will disable the onboard RAID since the P4P doesn't have them, which would not be good for me because I am running Raid0.

I appreciate your quick response.

Edit: Yes it does have a nice logo, but unfortunately I tweak my options so much I leave it disabled so that I see the boot screen.

If this should really work, then I can add or bring back the (SATA/IDA)RAID-Controller-BIOS from the P4C BIOS to the P4P BIOS.

Maviryk
04-25-2006, 09:13 AM
Do you think it is possible to bring back the PAT also? The P4C800 has the I865 chipset instead of the I875chipset. Anyhow, if you can make the changes I have a person with a bios flasher to test it out to see if it works correctly, if not he can physically flash it back.

Actually, looks like the P4P800-E Deluxe has a RAID controller, not sure if it is the same chip or not. Might be safer to replace it with the P4C800 version. P4P800-E Deluxe BIOS Version 1008 can be found at http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/P4P800-E%20DX/P4P8E008.zip

Hi.

The word: "this"
from the phrase: "If this should really work..." was related to your idea:

"flashing a P4P bios into the P4C"

So, if you can successfully flash the P4P BIOS file into the P4C FLASHROM and if the Mainbaord still boots, then I can bring back the RAID contoller BIOS from the original P4C BIOS file and put it into the P4P BIOS file.

Maviryk
04-25-2006, 10:08 AM
BNO, the P4P800 bios WILL work in the P4C800. Mainboard will boot just fine as long as it is flashed properly including bootlock.

Mainly I'm concerned about the RAID drivers and PAT support.

http://www.bleedinedge.com/guides/p4c800e_ddr533_mod/p4c800e_ddr533_mod_01.html

2.)
Well, which (detailed) kind of modifications have been done with the BIOS file at all:
http://www.bleedinedge.com/guides/p4c800e_ddr533_mod/p4c800e_ddr533_mod_02.html
-->P4PJEB.rom

What was modified in "Jeb's Upclock BIOS" at all?

What is/was the original BIOS revision/version referring to "Jeb's Upclock BIOS" ?

3.)
Referring to the "RAID drivers support" problem, both BIOS files
(P4C800 and P4P800) contain the same RAID Controller BIOS files/BIOS modules.
Just the network BOOTROM modules are differnt.

i'm also using a p4c800-e deluxe rev 2, 1023 bios w/ 3.0C & 4x512mb ocz 4400 gold modules (2.5-4-4-8)...my 100% prime95/memtest86 stable clock is 222MHz FSB and i'm also using the intel raid-0 (not the promise one)

sorry in advance for bombarding you with questions: did you face any issues with the raid after the flash? is PAT working at speeds > 200FSB? did you need to set the clock to any specific speed (ie: 201FSB) to flash?

lastly...i can't find any bios savior/second bios chip in my current location...it is my understanding that this mod is more complicated than a bios upgrade because there is no guarantee that the p4p bios will work on any given p4c800-e deluxe. would that be an accurate assessment? i'm still on the fence about trying the mod, but i would like to utilize the full potential of my RAMs so any help would be much appreciated.

Borg Number One--

I'd wanted to try doing this myself, but I can't seem to find a link for your toolkit on your site (maybe I'm blind...). Anyway, you might be able to help with this a lot faster and more accurately than I could do it.

I have an IBM A20m notebook (model 2628-4UU) that I want to upgrade the CPU in. From what I've read on the IBM site, the A20m and A21p seem to share the same basic mobo, but the A20p could have up to a 1 GHz PIII CPU. The latest BIOS for the A20m has CPU microcode for a 0686 CPU (900 MHz) but not the code for an 068A (1 GHz). I wanted to add the 1 GHz code to my BIOS.

Here's a link for the latest A20m BIOS (only available on a utility to make a bootable 'flash' floppy):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/spsdiw59.exe

Here's a link for the latest A21p BIOS with the 068A microcode (same deal as above, 'flash' floppy):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/spsdky38.exe

(Note: The link for the "BIOS non-diskette" on each page seems to link to an executable file that wants to flash within Windows and doesn't produce separate BIOS files to work with.)

If this helps, I opened the A20m BIOS file with UltraEdit32 and found a string that identifies the BIOS as by Phoenix, but copyright for IBM.

Can you assist me with this problem, BNO? I'd really appreciate it!

Hi harbinger.

I'd wanted to try doing this myself, but I can't seem to find a link for your toolkit on your site (maybe I'm blind...).

You are not blind ;).
The BNOBTC v5 archive and previous BNOBTC sites are currently not available.

Why?
1.)
I am currently re-building my homepage.

2.)
The number of BNOBTC v5 downloads has been increasing more and more.
This shows me that the BNOBTC and my BIOS modification services are really famous. :)

But all the time the persons (who used my free service and downloaded the BNOBTC) forgot that:
+ there are traffic costs
+ my motivations to provide free BIOS related service decreased more and more, because there never really were enough funds to finance the BNOBTC and BIOS modifications.
(Time is indeed money. Motivation is indeed money too.)

So, I temporary stopped the BNOBTC v5 download and I am currently really thinking about, if I should publish BNOBTC v6 at all.

All the persons, who downloaded the BNOBTC and/or got BIOS related technical support from me,
became more than lucky/happy and satisfied.

So, thousands of Windows and Linux users wrote replies, such as:

+ "Borg Number One, thank you very much for your support!!!! The motherboard firm(s) XXXXX could learn a lesson from you and your great BIOS related technical support."

+ "Hi Borg Number One, with your BIOS related support, I have no more problems with my mainboard anymore. Thanks."

+ "Hi Borg No. One, with the help of your modified BIOS, I will not be annoyed by a stupid BIOS splashlogo anymore and am able to see the P.O.S.T. screen too."

+ "Dear Borg, thank you for solving the CPU microcode error message while boot, thank you for unhide all the previously hidden BIOS Setup Menus and thank you for updating RAID controller ROM."

+ "Dear BNO, I am a linux user and using the DOS/Windows BIOS modification utilities is a little bit difficult. Many of them won't work with common DOS/Windows emulators.
Well, thank you very much for adding EtherBoot to my clients with AMI/Award/Phoenix BIOS."

+ etc...

But nearly nobody thought about making a donation.

Well, I like to provide BIOS related support and to help other users in hardware forums, and I want not to provide / I never wanted to provide this BIOS related technical service in a commercial way.

If I would do a commercial BIOS related support, then I would not be better than many current mainboard companies and OEM PC firms, which provide bad BIOS related technical support.

So, the only solution for:
+ keeping the BNOBTC homepage and BNOBTC archive available
+ further providing BIOS related technical support
+ increase the motivation to re-publish the BNOBTC
+ beginning with BIOS related experiments and research again
+ providing real-time desktop service
(for your problem(s) which may be hardly to describe, you can directly show me your computer related problem on your desktop or my desktop)
+ reducing traffic costs
...was to provide a possibility for a voluntary donation.

Now, everyone who understands the sense of the described facts, can make a voluntary donation here:

I can understand your predicament. Making such valuable services (and your time) available in any tech-related area can quickly expand to take up your entire life. That's why I don't fix other people's computers anymore. :)

From an end-user's standpoint who's just getting into this, however, it's frustrating. Just trying to find the tools alone has taken up a lot of my time over the past week--reading threads, doing research, following a LOT of dead/outdated links, and trying to do it yourself without bugging anyone. Then when you find what seems to be a downloadable solution to your needs, you find the site's been pulled because too many people before you pumped the well dry and didn't leave anything for anyone else. It's been my unfortunate experience with 'shareware' authors that, once you give, updates never come anymore or the author decides to pack it in and you're stuck. That's why I stopped buying shareware a long time ago.

I do hope that others who've taken your time and expertise in the past will chip in something to help compensate you. For now, I'll have to content myself with trying to find a downloadable copy of the last version of BNOBTC...if not, I guess I'll give up the project or settle for a boost to 900 MHz from 600 and be done with it.

Thanks for your reply.

Guys,

If you read his last post several pages back, he flipped us off and told us that he wasn't going to help anyone else unless we sent him money. Too many others downloaded his utilities and got his help with BIOS mods without giving him any ca$h to help defray his expenses. Not that he ever actively sought that help, or made it easy for people to do so...

Now, the way he did this was dumb, IMHO. Why? In his post, he seemed to rip all the other people a new one because nobody helped him. If he'd said, "Sure, I can help you and I'll send a link to d/l my software if you'll send a donation my way," I'd have done that. Instead he asked for money without any promise of help or a download link.

I think he took his toys and went home in a snit. It's a d@mn shame as he seemed to know what he was doing and the community could use his help, but we don't need people with an attitude.

I haven't seen him post anywhere for a while now. If you decide to make your copy of the tools available, I'm sure there might be somewhere that could host them for multiple downloaders.

I look at it like this--he made the tools available for the longest time without actively seeking donations. To me it would be fair game to pass them along, as his objections really started when v6 was mentioned.

Personally, I'd love to send him a little money in exchange for a valid download link. I even asked in several messages here as well as PMs but he wouldn't answer the question. So, I'm not about to blindly send $ without an assurance I'd get them. Now, if someone sends me a good copy, I'll go ahead and send him a donation just on principle--even if he never makes v6 available. That's the only right thing to do.

No offense to Borg, but he can't prevent people from sharing those tools. He may have helped lots of people, and gathered all the tools together, but he didn't write those programs, so he has no right to prevent people from sharing them. If he no longer wishes to help people, that is his choice. Don't let his decision not to help others affect your own.

Edit: Happy bios editing: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HTKF7FLO (If mods think this is unethical in anyway, feel free to remove. In simplest terms, it's just a collection of tools already out there.)

While I agree with MrBean, truth-be-known, for AWARD BIOS modding, one only needs the latest Cbrom(free), Modbin6(free), Fasm(free), IDA Free Disassembler(free), and Hex Workshop($29) to do all that can be done.

For AMI, MMTool is equivalent to Cbrom, and AMIBCP for windows is equivalent to Modbin. Both are also free and can be found with Google...

Problem today is that, many of the new BIOS can't be opened with last years tools.... And new tools don't exist that I know of....

IDA is not free.

It does, there's a link at the top right, click then enter a security code, then wait 60 seconds, then you get the download link and a pop up with scantilly clad women in Wiltshire

Downloading now :)

There are several editions of IDA Pro version 4.3. There is freeware edition (shown above), this version only supports x86 and it doesn't support IDA Pro plugin, only IDA Pro scripts. There is standard edition, that supports plugins and some other processor architectures beside x86 (IIRC). There is advanced edition that comes with the IDA Pro plugin SDK and 50 (or so) processor architectures support. IIRC, the standard edition costs around U$500, the advanced edition cost more. The freeware edition is ofcourse free, but I found out the free edition is enough for semiautomatic BIOS disassembly tasks.

I haven't visited in a while, and just found your download link. THANK YOU!

I tried to honor my word and visited the link Borg left for donations, but it appears to be dead. I also tried the BNOBTC page and it is dead also. I'm going to try another avenue or two before giving up.
