Ok, I'm convinced the reason my card is performing slowly is due to thermal throttling. I've tried everything including: clean install(s) of XP SP2, motherboard BIOS updates, unlocking all pipelines on my XFX vanilla 6800, driver changes using DC3 pro, video card overclocking, installing/uninstalling AGP GART driver etc.

Full System Specifications:

S754 A64 (268x9) = 2416.17MHz 3X HTT 220MHz mem freq @ 2.5-3-3-8
XFX vanilla 6800 fully unlocked pipes
1gb kit Twinmos TMII400 DDR 400
Chaintech VNF3-250
only a 400w Rosewill PSU that came with rebadge Aspire case

The heatsink that comes stock with the XFX card is not a large sink, which is why I think the card might be overheating and going into throttling mode, which might be causing my performance problem.
Look how small the heatsink is:

Can anyone help me out on how to change this in the BIOS? I have Nibitor but don't really know how to use it. Also where can I download an XFX bios to mod? Or are there premodded BIOS'es I can download somewhere? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

first get nvflash 4.46 from http://www.mvktech.net/

then save your old bios with nvflash.exe -b old.rom
and edit it with omniextreme or nibitor bios editor also could find on mvktech.

modify it and save it mod.rom and get nvflash.exe -f mod.rom for flashing it.

also you would find some bios on this site but watch out some arent correct. and check timings!

yes i think your throttling is caused by overheating check out how hot your cooler gets during some 3D benches (@ the end of 03 for ex.)

throttling ll be caused by issues of cooling or voltage.

hope that helps

Are you overclocking your 6800 ?

If so, then part of your throttling issues are probably due lack of GPU volts !

For overclocking the core to 350-400 region, the 3D volts should be at least 1.3. So what 3D volts are you currently running with, and how are you measuring it ?

And if you come back with 1.4, I hope you already know that 6800LE/NU BIOSes don't have a properly programmed 1.4v option. For most BOSes where 1.4 is available as an option, it generally sets gpu at 1.2 or 1.3.

Manufacturers must have just decided amongst themselves that 6800 LE/NU cards are not meant to run 1.4v. Presumably to keep a reasonable speed gap between lower and higher end cards. ??

However, with gpu at the 1.4v level, my 6800LE runs very stable at its current 425.
