the older vivos modding to xt pe's sucess rate was nearly 100%. Some did have trouble with the stock clocks running 16 pipes, but most people who had that problem just lowered their clocks a bit.
I'm not too sure how well the new vivos do at the flashing, but I honestly wouldn't try it investigating.

true, just go on a X800XL with VIVO 1.6ns for overclock. It may work well and performance in game even better than stock X800Pro.

I would say your chances are good. I flashed one vivo and when I overclocked it just a little I got checkerboard in the background. This was cause from a bad pipe.
The second I flashed was fine. No really great clocks though. Always save your old bios, you may need it.

PCIE seems to have changed things. Whereas most agp x800pro vivo cards modded to 16 pipes with a simple bios flash, pcie x800pro vivo cards are hard locked. Some people on techpowerup.com have reported being able to hard mod these to 16 pipes. But its too early to tell the success rate.

Another point - whilst the x800xl is already 16 pipes, its clocked much lower at 400MHz and typically doesnt overclock well. (ie 430MHz without a volt mod, 480MHz with it).

Actually most x800xl easy pull 450-460 without v-mods.I own a Connect3d x800xl whos running 459/585 artifact free 24/7 and benches at 470/592.This is a awesome card who is the king of its price segment. At those speeds even an 6800Ultra struggels to keep up and cosidering most 6800u cards retails at twice the price of a x800xl the card is a steal imho.I was a bit worried that the x800xl wold have probs with 1600x1200 res since i have a 20*lcd but so far no worries.Exept for Doom3 all games play very well at 1600x1200. :toast:
