Hi! my question is do i earn more by taking the HS off my A643500+? and how exacly do i take it of without dammage somthing under it, and is it safe to do extreme cooling with the HS off and what do i have to think about when if i are going to emove it. thanksfull for answer from people that have done this little operation and extreme cooled it without HS :)

Some people gain a few MHz, some people don't. The IHS can be removed by carefully slicing throug the rubber gasket/seal with a razor blade or XactoKnife. If the extreme cooling you mention involves temperatures that are less than ambient, you should definitely consider insulating everything outside of the core.

OPP always runs his without a heatspreader, I think the difference in temps is more dramatic and thus worth it to gain a few MHz at -100C ;)

A razorblade works great, something with a flat edge is less likely to do damage than say an Xacto knife (which I have used for this, lol) - main thing is make sure whatever you're cooling it with makes good contact with the core after removing the IHS, without applying too much force.

By the way...don't push that razor in too deep. Just a few millimeters is good enough to slice through the seal. You don't want to slice off the tiny little chips that neighbor the core.

yes i am trying to do it, and i know that i will have to insulate surounding the core i have done a lots of DI runs so i know that :)

matt9669: i use a swiftech 6002-64 with springs so theres not bee any hard preasure on the core :stick:

Thanks for quick replay :toast:

conrad.maranan: thanks i'll think about that thanks for the tip

i wouldnt do it, i dont think the small increase in core clock is worth the risk of killing the chip, just like cuddles did with his FX55

yes i heard about many kill theyre FX-55 but i dont heard about any winnies that have died by taking it of, well i will try it anyhow :p:

Its easy to take it off after you do some researching how much you can cut with that razor, I personally prefer IHS off, but I can give you a good tip: once you remove it, it's unbeliveable hard to get IHS back with good contact. I have given a seweral trys to get that IHS back on but all have failed. Well, maybe someday ;)

And what you can earn without IHS, maybe 50MHz more with decent cooling. Usually it only makes it much worse if you're using some crappy air cooling solution (read: boxed cooling)

yea i know now how to take it of ,but it's like yuo said i have to get it back somtime, well there must bee an solution for that too, and i use water not a crapy box cooler it havent been used it lays in the box since i bought the cpu. gonna do som realy hard cooling on it next friday to se what it's made for :D
