I was looking at the 6200, and 6600 and I realized something.
these look to be the exact same card.
I mean identical other then the heatsink.
looking at the ORB, I see this card when modded can do about 3000 points on 3dmark 2005 and about 7000 on 2003.
thats not too bad at all, considering it costs just alittle over $100.
heres the 6200...

looks like the perfect canidate for some bios modding or softmodding.
nice deal for a card thats looks to be alright for games, and won't break the bank, while still giving you PS3.0

Looks nice... price compares to x600Pro, but spanks it in '05 by about 1000pts

I want a 6200 that mods and has 256mb ram.. :D

the 256 meg ones cost as much as regular 6600.
at that point might as well just buy a 6600.

I wouldnt count on all 6200s softmodding to 8 pipes and the 6600 is only like $20 more, a good price for peace of mind. x600 pro is more like $70 too, not $100+

Actually, from what I've found the 6200 tends to gets better memory overclocks than the 6600 from the same brand. I'll be honest, I have no idea why this is. And I have only seen 1 or 2 people unable to unlock pipes, and to be honest, I don't quite know if they did everything correctly.
From what I can tell, it seems that 6200's can overclock better than 6600's! Again, I have no idea why this would be the case.
I get over 3300 in 3dmark05 with this card. It's been very kind to me.
Edited: definitely not almost always, bit of an exaggeration on my part

Hows it run games? :D

Well, to say that a 6200 will always clock better than a 6600 is somewhat unfair. I think I'm the only one here who has really given the 6600 Non-GT a whirl. If you notice the other cats who took me out in 03 and 05, you'll notice that their clocks are rather high. ;)

Games? Are those the things that look like the stuff in 3dmark? I've heard of them... what exactly do you do with them?

Someone in the 6200 thread in the overclocking section said he was going to try to flash his Leadtek 6200 with the 6600 bios as the cards are identical. I'm not sure if there would be any bebefit to it....maybe 8 pipes without a softmod or higher gpu and mem voltages??

Nvidia have now announced an AGP version of the 6200. Is this going to be the same crippled nv43 chip the 6600 uses or nv44 from the 6200 turbocache series ?

I'm guessing (hoping) it will be the former. Those TurboCache chips are yuck.

NV43. These Leadtek cards are the AGP variety. I've been playing around with one made by PNY that looks fairly similar to the Leadtek. There is also a Chaintech version that seems to be widely available...has all the TSOP mem chips on one side like a standard 6600 PCI.

Quite correct they are. Interesting to mess about with I guess seeing how the PCIe bridge speed changing would affect scores, but only on a cerebral level.
If the AGP 6200 is a castrated 6600 then I am definitely getting one. Softmodding as well as hardmodding gives you more variables to play with.

Aren't low-budget cards just a joy to play with. :p:

both the cards I showed here are 128 bit, not the TC Turd crap version.
plus they are both AGP.

I didn't realise that yours was AGP Jay. Strange how nvidia have just announced it if these things are floating around already.
Jay, di you manage to mod yours, you said you were having a few problems with different things.

This doesn't look too good

AGp not overclocking as well as PCie versions and not unlockable, if he is right of course.
I've got a gut feeling that AGP 6600GT's do not overclock as well as the PCie versions also. Maybe it is the bridge chip or PCB having to route power from the Molex ?

Yep, it worked...8 x 1 is available to me now!
I had to enable units 16,17,18 and 19 in Rivatuner. Just enabling pixel unit 0 would not work. These come with unit 1 and vertex units 8,9 and 10 enabled.
I still don't know what units 16 thru 19 are, or why they allowed the softmod to work. Have any idea Andy?
3.6 hynix ram, capable of 370mhz without sinks or mod....
EDIT: This was before Rivatuner 15.4 was available. I'm not sure if it would change anything.
2nd. EDIT: Make that 670ddr (335mhz) for the ram.

Hi Jay, thanks for the info. No I have no idea, I am not up to date with a lot of the nvidia stuff at present as I've been messing about with older stuff before finally moving onto PCie, I didn't even realise that the PCIe version of 6800 could not be soft modded.
I'm tempted by the 6200AGP though it has to be said. Maybe something for April /May to occupy me.
3.6ns memory is pretty good, as good as 6600's. I see this will need a lot of investigation before buying :) I wonder if someone will stick on some Hynic 2.2,2.5 or 2.8ns memory on one, that would be good. Or is BGA a lot more expensive to produce than TSOP packaging ?
What did you overclock to on the core ?

Andy

At stock voltage I got to 520mhz on ambient temp water. I'll try it with the overclock-testing function disabled in Rivatuner...might get a little more. Seems like the PCI-e cards are getting 540+.

Of note is that after soft-mod, the multi-textured fill rate alomst doubled but single textured fill rate barely increased due to mem bandwidth limitations.

The 6200 really sems to be the low budget card for overclcokers. It is like a geforce6800LE, pipemod it and get double pilines and oc it to 6600GT, the memmry will not go close to 6600GT, but as DDR on a geforce6800Le can't beat GDDR.
Are anyone of you getting one?

i fried my 9800 pro the other day and i'm low on cash, so i'm thinking about it. how would its performance compare to a 9800se with unlocked pipes? they're about the same price
