Hi!

I have a question: which OS is the best all-round for benchies (3D Mark 01,03,03)? The reason why I'm asking is that the ORB users for 3D Mark 01 have Windows 2000, but for 03 and 05 they use XP.

'01 is so heavily CPU/System based that Win2K will give a NICE bump in scores...
In '03 and '05, it doesn't make MUCH difference.

I'd say 2K both ways, but as you can see, 2K gives ~300 points boost in 01, 03/05 should be affected at least a little. Someone justified this by saying: "Win2000 doesnt have all the unnecessary :bs: running in the background."

I use win2k for all 3dmarks, but think i should need a benchdd more. 3dmark03/05 vs 3dmark01 use so diffrent drivers and directx.

But didn't see a gain in 03/05 with win2k, but i didn't do any detalied test to see the diferens.

I concur with recommending win2k. On my rig with my crappy fx5200u (stop laughing lol) i got almost 1000 3d 01 points when i reinstalled win2k after winxp hosed itself again. As a side note Server 2003 is next on my list to try. It seems to have an option to "lock mem pages in memory" thats gives ~400 mbs higher bandwidth in sandra 2005(pro edition only. Free version ignores the setting) which may add up to nice increase in 3d 01. JUst wish 3d mark ran on linux :"(

How about N-lite, does it give more points in 3dmark?
