X800 modding to X800XL?

Hello,

last week I have buyed my new gigabyte x800 (12 pipes) pcie graphiccard. Can I unlock the other 4 pipes from the x800xl?
When yes, can I do this over the Biosflash or to I have to mod something on the board?

There is a bios flash you can find to unlock the 4 pipelines. also i am sure u know u have to have a vivo to unlock them. also you need to find out the ram or sumthing i heard 1.6ms or sumthing on the ram let me find you some stuff in a sec

woot, the mod you're talkin' about is SPECIFICALLY for "ATI RADEON X800 Pro VIVO > X800 XT" !!!!! It's NOT for R430 plain X800 - there are some minor differences :D :D :D

Riverna, der Mod klappt bei deiner Karte nicht.

Der von woot verlinkte Bios Mod ist NUR für X800 Vivo Karten um sie zu einer X800 XT zu machen. Zwar für AGP und PCIe aber NICHT für Karten mit R430 Kern. Da gibt es ein paar kleine aber feine Unterschiede.

If you have and it doesnt work, then u need to find out which x800xl has the same Memory Manufacturer and Speed as yours. For exp, if yours has hynix 2.0, then u need for find x800xl bios for one that uses hynix 2.0.

You should appreciate your card though, I remember back when I used to search the internet when someone wanted to flash their 9600 to a pro or something and we were dealing with 4.0 and 5.0ns ram o_0 So try seeing how far it OCs and post ur benches at the 3dmark XS section. IF you do you will be the first with an X800 Standard to do so and I for one will applaud any such attempt.

Secondly, ATI has confirmed that all PCIE X700, X800, X800XL, and X850 cards will be Multi-VPU capable so somewhere down the road u can get another one for a good price and have a 24-pipe, 512MB monster ;)

R430 cores are only going onto x800XL's and they are all 16 pipe.

So, let's clear this up: to flash a 12 pipe X800 to an X800XL you don't NEED to have a VIVO model? You just need to find a BIOS that has the right kind of RAM and everything, right?

I'm VERY interested in seeing this in action, because I've been considering saving a bit of money and buying an X800 instead of an X800XL. Please keep this thread going, as it will help a lot of people! :toast:

Do not count on that to be the case all the time. An x800 PCIe is not a reference model. They are likely to have whatever the builder decides to put on it similar to SE models for the Asia market that make there way to US shores.

If yours is built on a 109-A47401-xx PCB then it is using an x800XL/X850 reference PCB.

I have two x800 12 pipe Non Vivo PCIe's here now. One is built on a 109-A47401-10 PCB
with an R430 core and the other is built on a 109-A31900-00 PCB (that is the reference
x800Pro/XT PCIe PCB) and is using a cut bridge R423 core. They are both OEM's from the
same maker but from different build lots.

That is what I mean by the x800 PCIe not being a reference model. The card you think
you are ordering may not be the card you get other than the clock speeds, active pipe
count and the bus type being what was advertised. Reference models are like cookie
cutters and built the same with occasional GPU cooler differences on OEM cards.

It is a way to utilize cores that do not meet speed bin spec for use on the higher clocked
models or that can't run 16 pipe instead of scraping them. Completed cards that were
targeted to be higher clocked or 16 pipe models that didn't pass final test as the target
model of the build can also be utilized and sold this way.

You can often get some very good cards at lower prices but it is buyer beware so to
speak.

Actually this thread was dedicated to collecting statistics of pipeline moddability on X800 series via BIOS editing / laser cut shorting. Unfortunately the most of ATI users don't seem to be interested, opposing to hundreds of postings in similar NV pipeline modding related threads.

Yes, there is... for now there's absolutely NOT A SINGLE X800 PCie card with R430 core, that had unlocked successfully... I mean @16 pipes.... not a single card.... all of them have the 4 remaining pipes hard locked into the chip itself... :(
