What is your job?

Well you could use that extra time doing extra things to further your career. However, if you get the job done, then what can I say, it's done. Nothing wrong with relaxing afterwards.

If anyone has a problem with it...tell them...DON'T BE HATIN! If you finish your work fast and everything meets the requirements then you shouldn't feel bad about anything. Maybe you can help your coworker and get some kinda promotion? But if you say something then they might give you more work..which would not be so cool.

salary. i get paid by the job, regardless of how long it takes. sometimes it's 30 hrs. sometimes it's 60. but all the time, i'm on call.

i put up a webserver at work and made it my homepage. the content of the homepage is all my work-related links, some geek links, some personal links, and company news feeds. below that are RSS feeds which get updated every 2 hours (through cron) looks similar to this. http://sllywhtboy.dyndns.org/feeds.php

so i skim the news when i have free time... some browsing (checking email and this place) results in about an hour's worth.

I maybe spend 1/5 of my working time surfing the internet. I do it as soon as I start to get too frustrated by a programming problem. I have no guilt, because if I didn't do it I would go mad! Then again, I rarely feel guilt to begin with, only logical regret, so I doubt it would ever happen.

Where I work, I'd better be able to explain how/why my 'net surfing is related to my job. That's been true on every job I've ever had.

If you have that much time and freedom, your overall productivity sucks. Sounds like you're overqualified for your job and should be promoted ;)

i work at a betting shop in the UK, won't say which one (think a big red logo with white writing) in the summer we have night racing and dont usually close till about 10pm, but most of the customers are gone by 5pm so its really quiet from 5pm - 10pm so i watch sky TV and my portable DVD player and stuff, and also go to KFC to get food, its bliss :D

I'm curious to know how much of your work day is spent browsing the Internet or doing something other than work for your employer.

I work a 9/80 schedule. The requirements for working a 9/80 are completion of 80 hours of work within a 9 day period. Basically, I work 9 hours a day from Monday to Thursday. I have a day off every other Friday and the Fridays that I do work, I am only required to put in 8 hours.

With that said, I probably spend around 3 hours of doing real work and spend the rest of my time browsing the Internet. I pride myself as being a very hard worker, so my work ethics should not be questioned. I do, however, feel that if I am able to complete all of my required tasks and projects in a speedy manner, I should be allowed to use my remaining time to do as I please. So if it takes 9 hours for one of my co-workers to complete their work and only 3 or 4 hours for me to complete mine, this just demonstrates that I'm more efficient than the next guy.

Anyone feel guilty or unethical about their performance at work? Because I don't. ;)

:D Me too - 80 hours online within 9 days...... :p:

I work a 10/80 schedule, and have no qualms with spending my downtime browsing the web. I am by far more productive than the grand majority of co-workers, so I don't feel bad that I can browse for hours every day and get the same level of work done. I've never had complaints about not getting my job done, and continue to get promotions and raises, so no, I'm not concerned nor do I feel guilty in any way, shape or form. :)

I work as a freelance programmer and probably 80-90% of my day I'm killing time by surfing or doing other stuff. I work extremely fast tho and my clients keep telling me how amazing it is I get things done so fast :D

The internet is my JOB!

Network Admin at a small ISP. I spend about 50% of my time on the web, the rest is taking care of problems in office and customers.
