Today i just created a cs:s dedicated server and when the people came it they all said that the server lagged... I am using a cable modem and my computer is and intel 3.4GHz with 1 gig memory so i dont really thinkg that it's my computer. I would really appreciate any help given.

Im his friend. The server was first up two weeks ago. Upon creation, we had 14 people playing in it without any lag at all. Then, he went on vacation for a week. The first 2 days, it was fine. Then out of nowhere, it became unplayable. HE couldnt reboot because he was on vacation for a week. Now when he came back and rebooted it helped a lot; we can at least play now. However, it still lags more than it should. There is def. something wrong. I'm thinking spyware mayb?
Thats why I doubt its interenet, but its possible.

switch to dsl, the lag will be alot less, since cable is shared.

my dad said he can host it on a dedicated T3 at his work if we can give him a seperate machine....if we spend like $30 each we can get memory and woul dhave the following
2.26ghz intel p4 533fsb
Intel mobo
1GB ram
bfg 5200
10GB hard drive
Would that run a 14 person dedicated hooked up to a t3 or should I add more juice?

beyond t3 are OC/9 and OC/12 lines or whatever they are called. But those are massive bandwidth connections, i think in the range of 700Mb/s. You certainly don't need anything like that.

the video card doesnt matter, get a radeon 8500. but i think u might need a better cpu. a cheap s754 sytem would be good.

to get the funky names you can do 1 of two things
1. learn the alt codes
2. copy and paste from word. to get the symbols go to insert symbol and then find the ones you want. but if you use aribic becarfull they read right to left and so there letters go right to left
you also have oc.192, which might be the fastest commercially available internet connection. ridiculously fast. you can download dvd's in like 10 seconds, providing that the server you are getting it from has that kind of pipe to support that bandwidth.

anyways, listen to reject. get a POS gfx card, a POS case from frys for 10 bucks and a S754 DFI and 3700+
or if you can get an opteron :D

i might be getting a 2.8 intel dell for cheap b/c "it's s**t the bed" but its only missing a windows file. so im gonna reformat it and install windows and the dedicated server and run it on t3 connection will that work as a good server

A DS3 is 45mb/s.
I have a dedicated Source server that ya'll are welcome to play one. Its IP address is 205.245.84.143
The server is a Dual Opteron 240, 1gb ram and a couple hundered GB's of storage as well as a POS GF3 Ti200 ;)
We also run, BF1942/BF:V and NWN.

Yes, they use less resources. Linux is better all around in every enviroment. They are hard to use for the normal user because they need prepping to get things to work but once setup correclty they rock!

My bandwidth is shot, our 6 T1's are 100% utilized. The Server is plenty fast (Dual Opteron 240s), just the connection is shot ;)
i'm looking at your server right now in the server screen for steam, and i see 295 ping. where are you guys at? actually anywhere in the US should not get that ping if its fast. tell us when its running like it should be. I've been playing in this pub for the past month, ranked in the 20's on it. might make top5 by the end of this month :)

oh, well i'm chicago, so ideally i should be able to get 50 pings to your server.
there was the funniest looking cheater at this one server i play at. he had some type of jump hack, which was like half the speed of a speed hack, while jumping, so he looked like a kangaroo.
and this one guy when he had an awp, he would be all jittery, and then get a headshot every time. it was making me dizzy spectating him.

Just played a quick round with PCIce on the UOG Texas server. Its always fun to talk with people outside these forum walls, you know, and knife them in the throat. :D

cool, once i figure out why my systems is screwing up on me, i'll add that server to my favorites.
as far as pubs go, how is it? the one server i frequent all the time kind of sucks. its just office, dust2, and aztec....

I didn't read the whole thread so if you discussed this, my fault. If you are playing on the computer that's giving you lag, while you are connected typ in fps_max 80 and see if that helps.

if i may inquire i just set up a Dedicated server on my LAN with a P4.. 1.6ghz.. slow as hell but its really just doing dedicated server duty...however i was just wondering where you can find the full list of commands.

yup... thanks to paladin for his great sites.. and yeah i've had it running for about three days.. no major problems... C++ keeps crashing or giving me an error......
this has happened 3 times.
