got a 128mb 6600GT from gainward and was wondering if i can unlock some pipes to make it more than 8 pipes.

i notice in rivatuner theres an option to enable/disable active pixel/vertex units, what does this do? can i use it to gain performance? if so which pixels and vertex thingies do i unlock?

hoping to squeeze quite a bit more performance out of this card, only getting about 20,500 in 3d01.

thanks in advance for any help :)

yep 6600GT uses a different core than 6800's so there are no locked pipelines there to unlock. Everything the core has is already enabled so sorry.

20.5k for that card is not too bad depending on your system. go run 2k3 and 2k5 6600GT's really shine there

so the 6600's have 12 pipes max?

the gainward 6600gt gs glh are great cards, I'l probably end up getting one for my dfi nf4 ultra-d...

How does yours overclock? Mine made it to 610/1300Mhz with the stock fan and a 80mm fan blowing underneath the card.

#5 -> Get an ASUS TOP OVERCLOCK card, those are by far the best. G/S GLH cards suffer from the HoHum syndrome, i.e. they overclock about as well as a rusty tractor competes in Formula1.

My MAX with stock cooling was 571/1140. After applying watercooling I'm on 605/1237 bench stable, but still not much. The stock coole is horrible, and the ram thermal pads arent exactly superb either. My advice, stay away from them :(

I think you just have bad luck, very bad luck. Since my card clocks better on stock air than your does on water.
I think the Gainward's better than the Asus, GS have handpicked gpu's and 1.6ns mem. Asus only has 1.6ns mem.

My XFX does 650/1300 watercooled.

This is my second one, the first (that died, dont ask) managed a 700 core !

Thats stock card, just a waterblock fitted.
The XFX use 2ns ram too.
So out of 2 cards, both have managed good clocks. That leads me to believe that nrl all GT's should manage 600/1200 with a decent cooler,.

mine reaches 615/1300 all stock cooling no mods.

only run that for benching, and hafta let the card cool down between each test.

ah I can't do that, as I have to let it run through all tests , not purchased 3Dmark. :(

no, although everyone else thinks your crazy, i have heard they have extra pipes. Unlocking them is a big risk, but u might be famous for doing it, and then everyone will be buying gainward 6600gt''s and unlocking them. Be ready to rma ur card though if u do plan on unlocking the extra pipes

That's total BS, the 6600 gpu isn't a down graded 6800gpu. Its made for max 8 pipes. So there is nothing to unlock, so don't tell anyone he'll get famous by sending his card to the graveyard.
Unless you've got some information no one else has :)
