MCP350 / DDC-12v problem

i just received this pump today and I'm already having problems. I noticed it was quite loud from the start. After reading reviews I was told it would be pretty much silent, but I can hear the motor from a distance. I thought the noise might have been due to the pressure or configuration in which i placed the block and rad, so I switched those around. Noise still continued. I thought it might have been the air bubbles, but I guess not. Noise still continued. Couple hours later, the pump wouldnt turn on consistantly, i have to give it a nudge to start. So I tried a different power supply, but the problem still exists. The pump seems to be getting worse by the minute. Now it barely turns on, and it seems that i have to shake a bit harder for it to start. Not too sure whats going on here.

did you run it dry AT ALL? If so its possible it got dammaged from this. If not, I would take it apart for a quick look (if it wont void the warranty by doing so). If nothing is wrong put it back togehter and do a quick run and see if it still makes the noise. If it does I would do an RMA.

nope did not run it dry, it was the first thing i saw in the manual "pump should never be run dry, even for a quick test"

apparently there is nothing that says voiding warranty on the pump, so yes i did open the pump, saw nothing unusual. Played with it for another 30minutes, pump made a faint hum noise, but did not want to work.

I bought the pump from crazypc.com, I sent them an email. hopefully i can get an RMA. only had the pump for a day.

surely tho running it dry wouldnt stop it starting, its a mag drive right which has no direct contact with the ceramic bearing which gets damaged during a dry run, unless of course it shattered so much it couldnt turn over anymore

thanks jin, im in no hurry, the watercooling is going in my shuttle, i'm trying to take it a step at a time. I'm still waiting for my gpu waterblock.

i got that pump and sometimes i dont think its working because its so quiet. lol rma

It sounds like you there might be a flat spot in the internal armature. I happens sometimes with even new motors. When the impeller comes to rest in a certain position there isn't enough power to start it up again. Move it just a bit and it starts up normally. Not much you can do about it but replace the pump.

well after emailing and calling Crazypc(nice fellows) they gave me the option to either RMA through them or through swiftech. I opted to RMA through swiftech as they are only 3 miles away from me(recently found this out!) and had emailed Michelle of Swiftech. She responds very quickly to emails and set me up with an RMA. So I drove down to the place, talked to the Bill (the big man himself), actually very skinny and tall. His office is full of testing tools, lots of bottles of distilled water on the floor, lot of weird electronics, and I saw tons of knobs and valves that you would find on tanks. Anyways, I told him that my pump wasnt starting correctly. He told me that 3 or 4 pumps had the same problem as mine. When restarting the computer or powersupply, the pump would not turn on without some shaking. So he just told Michelle to give me another pump and off I went. While I was there, I bought 10ft of tubing for $2. All in all, a pretty good experience with both companies. :cool:

sweet man.. I gotta go visit bill.. im in the san fernando valley.. one day when i can actually afford insurance i will drive down to city of industry and spend a day harrasing bill. poor guy.

btw im glad you got everything sorted out so quickly.

actually right now im living in long beach. swiftech is located in signal hill which is a couple miles down. :D

nah im poor.. my gf lives in encino. i live in canoga park, aka little mexico as i like to call it.
