View Full Version : Why when I overclock does my memory run at 166mhz?

When I run my 3200+@ stock, the memory runs at 200mhz in CPUZ memory tab.

When I run at 2.5ghz (4xht 250fsb) it reports 166mhz no matter what i do...

what am i doing wrong?

I've tried changing the memory settings to cap it at 400ddr, 500ddr and set it to Auto.. no matter what setting I've changed seems to fix this.

Another, possibly related anomaly, is that in CPUZ under SPD tab, it says one chip frequency is 232mhz and the other is 250mhz, it says the 232mhz chip is 2.0 CAS latency and the other is the manu. spec 2.5...

I've thought of moving the memory sticks to different slots and see if that helps with overclocking, as I've read reports of this on different boards.. the DFI in particular IIRC

Thanks in advance, this stuff has stumped me since I've gotten the board... and while I was ignoring it and was planning on getting the DFI SLI.. since I cant find one I might as well try to figure out whats going on here.
Maybe I'll keep it.. 2.5ghz is fine for me.. but I think the board is limiting it as I've ran 2.55ghz before..

First thing i'd try is moving the sticks around check your mb manual it may be that there are specific slot you need to put the memory in. Also check the sticks, if you can see the details on them and make sure they're the same but dont go removing heat spreaders. have you manually set the memory timings in the bios?

 Did You try a later CPU-Z release, sometimes it shows not the truth, try another version. :toast:

cool you are from northern ireland, my ancestors came from there. ive never communicated with anyone from NI.
heh anyway..

i have set the memory settings manually in the bios. i've tried about every possible combo in the bios that i know of, and even stuff i figured would have no effect.

its just strange.

i think i'll check the manual for ram placement.
it is in dual ddr config.

edit- also its CPUZ 1.26 december 2004
