Why would he want to do that? Maybe that's all he can afford at the moment.
Click the search button and type in 5200. You'll find something.

i owned this card before i got my X800 pro, its not a nice card. If its all you can afford then fine but i would want something a little nicer if i were you. Even with overclocking you wont get much out of this card at any acceptable resolutions in any modern games. I tried playing half life 2 on it and the game kept locking up and it didnt look good in DX8. I would say, return it and save for something newer. The $200 6600gt from Nvidia is a nice budget video card.

Hasnt replied yet...hope he didnt take my "Return It" too harshly...oops? :(
Thing is though in the low-end AGP right now the 9550 is the best deal. Those things OC like MAD and reach 9600 pro speeds (at times faster than my 9600np  ) for around $60 instead of the $50 range for the 5200.

I'm sorry. I really have to defend this guy because your posts are, in a sense, not exactly what he's hoping to hear. Please check out the system in his signature. If he's still using the hardware he has listed, even a 6600 GT will lose its shine if he were to go that route. Also, the 5200 costs an average of $60. A 6600GT costs at least three times that amount. If it has taken him this long to move up from a TNT2 card to the bottom of the line FX, there's probably more to it than meets the eye.
Overclocking is supposed to be taking hardware that fits your needs and budget and tweaking it to make the most of it.

I just hope he wasnt discouraged or anything and I guess I didnt take a look at his sig before I blurted out Return it :( . Its just that you go around with yer mind stuffed with whats good and whats not when it comes to general hardware purchases and its an involuntary reaction really. I mean, its like if someone said i just ordered 1gig of cl3 pc-3200 ram !!! Its more of a setting straight issue than it is imposing more expensive hardware.

I know where you're coming from. And I'm not intentionally trying to police or moderate anyone on these forums with regard to what's tactful and what's not. But sometimes, we all need to stop and absorb everything for a little while prior to posting. Feelings are capable of being hurt - even if it's over the Internet.
Cheers!

Look at his public profile. If it's any consolation, he hasn't been on since before your first post. So maybe he just hasn't checked responses yet. At least you didn't start off by saying, "You idiot!!! WHY DID YOU BUY THAT CARD?!?!?!?" I've seen stuff like that on other forums, it's rather rude. It's good etiquette that you even care about his feelings! Good for you!

you can get a 9600pro for $100, can u save for that?

Well if the 9550 is 60$ like perkam says, then thats a great deal, and much much better than the 5200, but still even tho it's a pretty bad card, even for last gen, it's a big step up from a tnt2 lol. You can't mod a 5200 to anything but a 5200 so no luck there. Best I can say to do would get better cooling, and overclock the best you can. You could volt mod it as well, but I doubt your up for that.

If money is an issue (but you have ~$100 to spend) maybe try a 6200 AGP: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=52765
Just an idea. Trust me, I know how it is having an old computer! Before my current computer, I had a P3-850 with a 6 year old mobo (Abit BE6) and a Geforce 2 GTS that a friend of mine sold me since he hadn't used it in years. This was in January mind you!
Good luck with your computer, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like that's relatively inexpensive if you look around.

Unfortunately IFnemo you cannot unlock pieplines on these cards, they were a 4x1 configuration, down from the GF4 4x2 configuration, hence they get a bad press ( as you can tell from replies ) and to be honest much of it is justified. The 5200U was not bad for it's price range if you stuck to DX7 and DX8 and had the faster memory on it, but the 5200 is somewhat bereft of options. I would guess the cheapest route would be a much better cooler and a volt mod, but I have the feeling you want to leave it stock.
I didn't relaise the 6200 was in AGP version yet, but that would be a nice buy I think.

Andy

If you don't play games, why are you overclocking and trying to unlock pipes?

cuz, even if it's cheap it still works better overclocked & taken to the most it can take, even if it don't stand it and blow up, it's only $50

return it and get a 6200 (NOT TURBOCASHE), u can unlock the pipelines on most of those to 8pipes, 128 bit bus, and oc to about the level of a 6600, making it an awesome card for the price!

This card will run dx9 games but it wont be great performance, my brother has one on his box as he's too busy making money on ebay selling U2 tickets to play games (plus hes crap at games anyway :p: )
Just had an idea, maybe ill borrow his card and stick a vapochill on it then overclock it till it explodes just to see what performance i can get out of it. :D

Yes, sir. My wife and I ordered it on the first week of January. It was then delivered to us on the 28th of last month. We started saving up for this car even prior to us getting married, so I'm hoping there will be no reason to RMA the vehicle. After all, Bimmers are the ultimate driving machine. :D
