Nice setup, that will be a big step from your 2600+ ;)
Those sinks on the hsf rear bracket i dont know will do much, but i guess its better then nothing. maybe you could have someone cnc you a Sink with mounting holes then you could use that for the sinks and a bracket. might cost ya some green tho..

to CNC somthing like that would cost a good bit actually, that would be alot of milling. ill probably get some better sinks for the back if my idea works. maybe ill start a trend! :p:

im keeping all 2/3 of my AXP rigs. i need at least one for my beloved 9800pro.
ill have news on that soon too, once my A64 is up and running ill grab the 9800pro air GPU clock speed record. speaking of which, what is the record? last i heard it was 523mhz for 3d01.

"my A64 is up and running ill grab the 9800pro air GPU clock speed record. speaking of which, what is the record? last i heard it was 523mhz for 3d01."
I think it was in the 530s but with lots of white dots and sometimes lockups. I dont think ive seen any even break 500 on air without a few white dots. I own a 9800p from some dude who says it does 470/390 completely clean but when I tested it out I begin to get arties starting at 450/380. May just be a heat limit, he could live in a cold climate. Well see what my vga silencer gets her. How does the ram on your 9800p do? I remember you were one of those 22k guys with a NON a64, insane stuff!

Do benchies on all stock speeds, fastest settings/timings everywhere. Then do max cpu/mem clocking with stock gpu. Then go for max everything! :slobber: :)

i havnt tried benching with my gpu volts up...so well see. i got the 22k(was actually high 21k in win xp) with stock cooled 9800! now with vgpu and cooling i can bench 3d01 at over 500mhz with my 24/7 voltage. not even sure what 1.95vgpu can do... i got a 554mhz screenshot at that speed.
heres my logic: stock cooling i had 461 24/7 stable, 470 wouldnt go and if i recall it would reboot under 480mhz. so by that math 554 -20mhz = ~534mhz :stick:
Geforce4ti4200
03-03-2005, 11:49 AM
I dont think it scales like that. My 9800p is almost clean at 450 core, artifacts alot at 460 and locks at 470. There is about a 10-15MHz grace between no artifacts and massive artifacting/locking. It gets worse as you go(450..............465)You didnt mention what your ram does, this matters alot, especially with high core clocks. Bench with everything stock then everything overclocked, even with 3dmark 2003. Good luck with 2001, will be interesting to see where you end up. Think I have any chance of beating you in 2001 with a good 9800p and Venice? one more thing, when/if you sell your 9800p, id like to be the first to know ;)

for now everything is totally bone stock. 3200+ cpu cooler on my 3000+, stock x850 cooling.
an update.. i did some 03 playing, and so far my top score is 13,030. stock cpu. only graphics clocks
i cant OC my cpu at ALL, the psu is just too weak. but i can get some decent graphics card clocks. the gpu is very limited due to power(about 555 max) but the ram does ok at 645mhz :)
more to come.. feel free to IM me if you wanna chat as i play with it. :)

i dont even have aquamark3, tried it about once. got 18k on my 9800p when i should have gotten about 50k and never went back. it also seemed to favor intel way too much.

this is winXP SP2 also. so my 01 score lacks a little.
all are with stock cpu, and the x850 is the only thing OCed. im being held back by my psu... :(

for now im very psu limited. so the high numbers arent so high :p
the water cooling specs:
hydor L30 (320gph)
1/2" tygon
dangerden TDX brass top
radiator is yet to be had. my hold up is some machine work needed on my new case and finding the right rad. the rad is the very last piece of hardware that i need, then i can take my barton rig apart, and probly put it on a mobo box on the floor with an AX-7(i love ax-7, i have 2) while i get the water cooling ready.
for now i dont think cpu cooling is going to limit me. i tried to OC the cpu and such, i got 1.5vcore to run and it wasnt too hot, but the board refuses to give me more than 2.7vdimm. its stuck on 2.7v. thats not a big issue with tccd, but im using my tccd in my everyday barton comp(i like the gig of ram) and i have bh5 in the a64, 2.7v isnt enough. and everything gets retarded with more fsb due to the psu.
I'm sorry to say it Spork but from what I've seen CBBHD isn't a very good stepping :(

have fun with your new stuff dominic! good to see you back man :toast:
that dfi heatsink is really really close to all videocards edges, same with my 6600gt
if your using an usb mouse or keyboard change the usb voltage thing to 5vsb! the jumpers are up on the board, they are described in the first pages of the manual :) it fixes instability problems some people had with their dfi boards when using an usb mouse or keyboard afaik :)
oh and dont use the special vid control at first! it screwes up the vcore for me and some other people, use the normal vcore and startup vcore first.
oh and go step by step with your cpu!
i never saw one of my many cpus show the slightest efect of burning in, but this one is insane!
first it wouldnt even do 2500mhz stable with 1.55v and i couldnt boot at 2550mhz
now it does 2600mhz stable (with a papst fan and <18°C air, but nevertheless impressive!) and boots with up to 2750mhz!
i switched back to the stock amd fan and ran the tests again, and its now stable 50-100mhz higher then when i first tried this chip!

i never saw one either, some of my chips rather oced worse and worse with time actually
but this one is simply amazing! i started with stock volts and then primed, and only increased vcore if it wasnt stable, and only increased bit by bit (0.025v)
then i primed at the highest stable setting for some hours and started all over again, stock vcore and 2400mhz, then worked my way up again.
ive done it 4 times already and i dont get much higher anymore, but i still see slight increasements after 4 times and around 2 days of benching/prime'ing

You really need more than 300w, have you gotten your 600w OCz psu yet? I dont know why your mobos only giving you 2.7v maybe you need a bios that can give higher? If not youll need to stick with your tccd but thats good stuff, it can do much higher fsb than bh5 at only slightly more lax timing. You already beat my 23.8k with my 9700, but I have a 25.8k with 9800p, gonna try for higher if I can get its clocks up. Good luck tweaking and beating me :D

hmmm that makes sence... but actually ... then the temps would have changed under load, but they didnt... not even 1°C... the cpu just ocs higher, so i dont think it has to do with the shin etsu on the ihs :)

Are you measuring temps with a probe? If not then don't even consider them, especially if you have an MSI k8N neo2 like mine that indicates 40 degrees even when the CPU is getting cooled by water just above freezing ;)

Are you measuring temps with a probe? If not then don't even consider them, especially if you have an MSI k8N neo2 like mine that indicates 40 degrees even when the CPU is getting cooled by water just above freezing ;)
dfi board and the temps are pretty accurate! i get 14°C idle temps with 14°C cool air wich sounds just abourt right, and 40°C load temps with the stock heatsink beeing around 30°C wich also sounds just about right :)
even if the temps would be too high, then they still would have changed if my burn in had to do with the termal glue amd is using on the ihs... from 40 idle to 39 idle or something.
i found out that my chip is a very nice termal scaling chip! :)
5°C lower load temps result in an at least 50mhz higher clock! stable of course, and with the same vcore! :)
hmmm sux to hear that dominic :(
i hope its not the ram...

Hey Wes! :D
My system is on its way to me now... only lacking the vid card now, but I think saaya will get it solved, eh saaya!? ;)
Go and finish you system, it will definitely shine

Why do you think your CPU is PSU limited? If the videocard can clock pretty high, and it's a 12V hogger, then in 2D when the videocard isn't drawing any power, the CPU should be able to receive it's share. A 3000+ Winnie only eats about 50W at stock.

tried setting 3.0v, or 2.9v? Unless you have your 3.3v rail set to ~3.5v it will revert to default voltage on post when you try setting above about .2v from your supply source.

I never had that problem-ever on my a64. Did have it back on my xp2000 with nf2 mobo. I think your 300w psu is causing all sorts of problems, I know my old generic 400w did, I couldnt overclock or 3dmark would artifact than lock. With the new psu I never had problems ever! I wouldnt be supprised if your psu is reason why you cant raise the vdimm, not enough juice!

im working on beating mricee actually.
ive got my tccd in and 475 is again going well but there seems to be a flaw with this bios/board using an LDT multi under 2.5... 2.5x works great to about 480ish, 475 is stable. 2x wont boot... what gives? :(

Eshbach gave you a tweaked copy of win2k, youll score much higher with that. 30k is going to be VERY hard with winblowsXP, you will need 200MHz higher with winblowsXP to score what win2k delivers. I see you arent even at 27k yet. 1 piece fo hobby copper (sheet) + min 4 - 8 OCZ copper BGA or 4 'flower' sinks (don know if the taller ones fit on the back). Solder and torch.
Dremel out shape to match stock backplate and drill holes.
remove stickon stuff from back of Sinks, then clean everything and solder the sinks to new backplate. Cleanup and mount on back of vidcard. Add fannage as needed

my bh5 at 280ish leaves me with lower cpu speed but the 3dmarks are nearly the same. i got close to 31k with that setting, where 9x295 got 31.2k

280x9=2.52GHz vs. 295x9=2.65GHz so bh5 is 15MHz behind and 130MHz behind in cpu MHz yet very close, I think thats a VERY nice bh5 score. You could try 265x10 or 300+ with 8x multi and a divider to hit 2.65GHz cpu. Well a Venice 3200+ will be the perfect cpu for you, 280x10 with bh5 1:1 ;)
