View Full Version : Are you satisfied with your system?

I just put my system (specs in sig) together yesterday and am extremely satisfied with it. I'm not a performance freak or anything but this system will do everything I need it to. I was also on a very tight budget and am happy with the results.

I love the Newcastle 754 I have. I was expecting 2200mhz MAYBE because saaya said my chip was probably going to be crap. I'm glad he was wrong! 2650mhz 24/7 is good enough for me! I already had the PSU and need to replace it badly.

So are you guys overall satisfied with your systems?

saaya

cool! glad your chip turned out to that nice! :)

and yet another proof that cpu steppings dont mean that much after all , i had 2 chips with a very similar stepping and they only did 2.4ghz...

system looks very nice, except for the memory... hmmm maybe try that twinmos winbond memory? here you can get 2 512mb sticks for 180$ or less and they seem to do 250mhz 2-2-2 or higher :)

well honestly, No one is.

When you get into this Scene, you get addicted and then you want the latest and fastest products out untill you get to a Piont where money issues are to consern then you gotta back out..

This happeneds To the Best of us, and im sure Many Folks here can say its happened to them..

But yea, Im honestly Happy with my system, i do want some changes, like the ATI AIW x800xtpe, and maybe better ram, 250fsb isnt enough to please me..

just wish i had a newer stepping cpu so i could maybe do 3ghz, my current one is a week 47 of 03...i got it for cheap though, and 2.8 is nice, so i cant really complain.

1.5gig A64 1mb and Bh5 1:1 are the best things in my system.
My mouse monitor and stuff are like old friends, and I woudlnt change them.

The only thing im not all that happy with is my 9800pro, not that its a bad card the overclock is very good and stable. But I think Ill want to move up to something faster in the near future. No matter what I do CS:S still drops down below 40fps sometimes, which is bad for aiming. Ive put off buying a new graphics card for ages, but Ill try and pick up an AGP X800 second hand some time... if I can find the money.

Im happyer with this A64mobile3200, DFI-UT and winbond Bh5 than I have been with any other system so far.

No....
3400 Clawhammer
MSI K8N Neo Plat.
x800pro
512x2 BH5
SB Audigy 2 ZS Plat.
80 gig maxtor sata
14" Gateway 2000 monitor

I don't like the ram because it's not stable over 205mhz. I'll be replacing it soon.
I don't like the sound card. It stops working every once in a while. New one here soon. Most likely an m-audio card.
Hard drive is acceptable, but I will get 2 raptors to replace it.
Monitor is garbage. Replacing it with a 32" Samsung lcd hdtv or a projector.

even wow has performance issues at full details/1280x960/2xAA :(

and if this wouldnt be enough, since i took the waterblock off my nb i cant get any fsb over 200 stable :brick:

i cant wait till my new stuff finally arrives! *humming jeopardy jingle* :D

I am satisfied with my system excluding the nagging thought of being better in the back of my head. 32-bit AMD's were nothing but trouble for me, I owned 3 chips (1400+, 1700+, 2600+ mobile), and it was always an unstable machine. I couldn't get a stable overclock, I had constant problems. Now that I have my 64 machine, most of these problems have gone away and my system performance is top-notch, to me at least. Of course, I would like to upgrade, I have the money, but I am saving it for other stuff. But when you upgrade, you clearly see that upgrading one part creates a bottle-neck in another area. I bought my PSU, Mobo, and CPU, and I saw that this created a bottle-neck in my RAM area, I upgraded the RAM and now I have a bottleneck in the video card area. Ahh well, I'll just live with this 9700Pro for now.

Overall yes, it does everything I need it to as smooth as possible. My games don't lag, my programs compile without error, and it's quiet compared to my other systems. My only gripe is the crappy overclock on my cpu (maxes at 2200). But since I cant afford anything new for a while and I don't need extra power, I'm happy. Even though I have the upgrade bug again with NF4 and r520 rumors :(

02-23-2005, 08:43 PM
Yeah, I like my system and it's all stable and pretty fast (except vid card... I kinda chipped the core with some custom h2o mounting problems... I'm stuck with a 9600 Pro that won't overclock now).

Having said that, it's definitely time for my yearly upgrade. :) I'm thinking E stepping 3000+, DFI nForce4 Ultra-D, ATi Radeon X800. Now that I have a job it might be possible.

Those damn voices give me a headache. My wife often argues with those voices when I'm sleeping. She claims that I mumble computer terminology in my sleep every so often (she's serious). It gets to the point where she'll even respond to what I'm saying just to hear what I might say next.

talking about "When you get into this Scene, ..."

last holidays i went to a lan and realized that my rig was by far the fastest.
i had the feeling that my sys maybe wasnt that slow after all.

but back to the xs-madness i feel that an x850xt-pe really is absolutely necessary :D

you really get thinking when you think you cant take it anymore and need to upgrade your machine and then go to a lan and find out your "old" and "slow" machine is still the fastest rig even though there are some guys with all new rigs.... :D

there was one guy once who just got a really nice new sys sponsored from his clan and couldnt believe that my old system was faster than his brand new top of the line gaming machine :D
i had a 6 months old barton at 11x240 with 2 years old bh5 at 2-2-2 and a 12 months old or older !!! 9500np@9700pro
he had a P4 3.2ghz (fastest cpu out back then) some corsair "low latency" memory at 2-3-3 and an fx5800U :D

I hate my computer. It's a damn 1.533Ghz Palermino core Athlon XP (1800) with 768MB generic RAM. I can't get more then 1.7Ghz at 1.8v and it's not totally stable, but I can do 1.667Ghz 24/7 np, still it sucks. Almost as much as my one stick of generic RAM that can only go from 266Mhz to 295Mhz, although the other one goes all the way to 356Mhz, but I think I'm running into the limits of my POS mobo then. It's just an ASUS KT266 chipset, POS.

Then I look at my BFG Geforce 6800GT and I feel a bit better, and then I realise how horribly CPU limited I am and it sucks again.

I am NOT satisfied.. and you know why... ITs because im on a NF2 with a xp1600 running at pathetic 1.7ghz clock speed (oced from 1.4) and what really pisses me off is that i have ocz3200 el plat that clocks like mad, an x800xt that will do 650mhz on teh core and a ocz powerstream 520... so i have the perfect gaming machine except for the fact that im on a nf2... and im so broke i cant afford a new a64 cpu to put into my kn8noe2 sitting in the stack of mobos at the far side of the room...

oh woe is me.

I noticed your sig says 9600pro @ XT? How'd you do that?
I've got the sapphire 9600 pro 128mb.

I'm using the "A.I." overclocking feature of my fine mobo. So it's at 220x10. I'd like to push it more, but I don't think i'll much use of it except for games...and it's my video card that's the bottleneck :)

LOL Yeah like noobs to computers...I imagine that'd work. But you should be careful though. As saaya pointed out, even his 9700 with the right cooling could beat your 6800GT in 01 ;) Not to depress u or anything
