I need a good, free antivirus application. I'd like it to use as few resources as possible.

Any ideas? What do ya'll use?

AVG or Avast, free for personal use.

I liked the interface of AVG better, it's a personal taste kind of thing. Avast and AVG both have "light" footprints, though again, AVG just feels lighter to me.

I don't use anything. I havn't had any viruses yet, and I've had this windows install for over a year...

That's how I usually am also. Its just.. new system.. I'd like to try something out.

I dunno. I've always been antivirus-less.

To be honest I wouldn't really attribute it to luck. I download a lot of stuff, I just know where to download from and where not to.

i've been installing AVG on sidework systems without AV software. i use clamav on my linux boxen. the native ports (ha!) for clam seem to require cygwin.

Same here... I've been without an anti-virus program for 4 years, and haven't had a single virus. Every few months I use an online virus scan to check to make sure I'm clean, but I can usually always pick up on signs of a virus from work experience. It's all about knowing where to download and where not to download from. After a few years on the net, you get the feel for it.

I've had a few virii. One boot sector about 4 years ago and recently a trojan i got at a lan party. The people infected didn't even know they were infected... ignorance is not bliss.

AVG is what I use, nice program. I bought Norton and used it...got a virus, but it wouldn't do anything about it. It just informed me of it...

Its not just about knowing where you're downloading from. Mistakes get you viruses too. Like looking for :banana::banana::banana:'s Sporting Goods, and typing in :banana::banana::banana:s.com thereby taking you to a gay porn site. :p That's virus enough for me.

LOL, didn't really think of that name being -ed out

man that right there is censorship to the max

Yea AVG us like Norton but better. I have Norton Right now and its kept me clean for as long as ive had it. I dont think its ever actually told me it was getting rid of a virus so i guess ive gotten none.

You guys played Chronicles of Rid:banana::banana::banana::banana: yet... awesome game. :D

I like AVG. I keep getting norton for free with boards and stuff but stick with AVG. Norton's kinda bloated. It's harder to tell on my newest rig but you know most definitely on my older ones... so I know it's there.

I use AVG as well. Free, pretty easy to use, fairly thorough and it's free. :)

I don't like that it wants to keep open all the time, so I only open it when I do scans every few days. It seems to keep my sys pretty clean.

What Rid:banana::banana::banana::banana: has to do with A/V I dunno.

But yes, fun game. I'm in the process of replaying on hardest level, doing everything the hardest way I can think of. I like it!

AVG usually, but I splashed out on NOD32, suprised at what AVG doesn't pick up.
Picks up more than the heap called norton though.

I used to use AVG Free Edition on all of my Win32 installations. Great stuff. Although, when I had a case of MSBlast, it didn't do anything, just came up with a polite little dialog box: "Virus Alert! The virus: Worm.MSBlast/Lovesan has been detected. BlahBlah. Please run a full scan and add it to the Virus Vault." I just decided to remove it manually. Anyway, apart from cases like that, it's great.
