View Full Version : lack of female overclockers

is it me or does it seem a male dominated 'sport'? i mean i dont know of one female here on these forums, i know alot of girls that spend time on computers mainly for msn / email / music etc... but how come they dont seem to be into the technical side of things? i've tryed to get my gf into hardware and things but as long as messenger and outlook work she doesnt seem too bothered about how many mhz this has or how many gigs that has

she constantly tells me i spend too much time on the computer and doesnt see the point of benchmarks and other tweaks, i tell her that fast computers make the world go round and without them we wouldnt be as advanced in science and medicine as we are now

she recently bought a new pc from *der der der* PC WORLD! now i have nothing agaisnt pc world but i think the fact she was a female they took her for a ride, she ended up paying £500 (~$1000) for a celeron 2.4ghz, 256mb ram and a mobo with more things onboard than you can shake a stick at :stick: i tryed to explain to her (in the nicest possible way:rolleyes:) that she was well....ripped off and i could have gotten her a much faster pc for the same cash, anyway point of the story is i think women should take a little more attention in hardware and they'd be much better off in the long run, any thoughts or experiences guys? or girls for that matter

I saw a PBS program called "Handy Mam" where a middle-aged woman and here daughters were going to Modify a computer. This I had to see. But amounted to hot gluing plastic foliage around the monitor and making slip covers for the mouse. I laughed.

I don't really mind that there aren't many female overclockers. Females that do technical things remind me of males, and that just isn't cool.

Honestly its probly to complicated for women. They wouldnt wanna waste there time to try to figure it out.

i can see a small percent willing to really get into computers, but everygurl ive talked could care less on how to mod or mess with them.

Some females can get into something with computers others don't. It just depends on the person...

Women have their own forums. Something along the lines of XtremeDesignerHandbags, XtremelyPainfulLookingShoes, XtremeShopping, and XtremeDoesMyButtLookBigInThisDress.

As far as women and computers are concerned, I used to manage several female Web Developers that would lose me after a few sentences. Overclocking hardware is somewhere along the lines of suping-up cars: it's more masculine than it is feminine. ;)

XtremeDoesMyButtLookBigInThisDress[/i].

but I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waste
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up front
Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that butt you got
Me so horny
Ooh, rub all of that smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my Benz
Well use me, use me cuz you ain't that average groupy

I've seen them dancin'
The hell with romancin'
She sweat, wet, got it goin' like a turbo 'Vette

I'm tired of magazines
saying flat butt's the only thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back, so

Fellas (yeah), fellas (yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back

(LA face with Oakland booty)

I like'em round and big
And when I'm throwin' a gig
I just can't help myself
I'm actin like an animal
Now here's my scandal

I wanna get you home
And ugh, double ugh, ugh
I ain't talkin' bout Playboy
Cuz silicone parts were made for toys
I wannem real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mixalot's in trouble
Beggin' for a piece of that bubble
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Watchin' these bimbos walkin' like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
A word to the thick soul sistas
I wanna get with ya
I won't cus or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna :banana::banana::banana:
Til the break of dawn
Baby, I got it goin on
A lot of pimps won't like this song
Cuz them punks like to hit it and quit it
But I'd rather stay and play
Cuz I'm long and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on

So ladies (yeah), ladies (yeah)
If you wanna role in my Mercedes (yeah)
Then turn around
Stick it out
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back

(LA face with the Oakland booty)

Yeah baby
When it comes to females
Cosmo and got nothin to do with my selection
36-24-36
Only if she's 5'3"

So your girlfriend rolls a Honda
Playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns hon
You can do side bends or sit-ups, but please don't lose that butt
Some brothers wanna play that hard role
and tell you that the butt need to go
So they toss it and leave it
And I pull up quick to retrieve it
So Cosmo says you're fat
Well I ain't down with that
Cuz your waste is small and your curves are kickin'
And I'm thinkin' bout stickin'
To the beanpole dames in the magazines
You ain't it Miss Thang
Give me a sista I can't resist her
Red beans and rice didn't miss her
Some knucklehead tried to dis
Cuz his girls were on my list
He had game but he chose to hit 'em
And pulled up quick to get with 'em
So ladies if the butt is round
And you wanna triple X throw down
Dial 1-900-mixalot and kick them nasty thoughts
Baby got back

Guys might visit a hello-kitty forum to try and chat up girls in cyber space..

But I think that comuter overclocking is not only uninteresting to girls, but they probably think of us as a load a beer bellied middle aged geeks... so they wont come here for the company either. (unless they have an odd taiste in men - looks at kazoo)

Hehe :P

Not that I mind about the lack of girls, there presence might distract me from my overclock :P

I already talk with girls about oc, actually they asked me questions about it after seeing my wc. But it was more because they were curious about it than anything else.
The oc world is not that big after all, i know many guys that know sh*t about comps (more than logging into windows and using ie) they're the majority of comp users!
I'm in engineering school and the ratio is somewhere along 85% man vs 14% women (the remain percent is between the 2 :D :D :D)
Girls might not be into oc but they know a good deal about comp and they use it as smoothly as a man but they don't seem to look under the hood. Like cars, they drive cars sometimes better than any other man but they're not into fixing and tuning stuff

:D Hm......, reminds me to this taken from the song "I don't like Mondays" performed by the "Boomtown Rats":

"..........and the silicon chip inside her head get switched to overload......."
So maybe women mostly do not overclock but overload and to avoid the consequences it's better to get out of range as far as possible......... :toast:

The hands-down sizzling hottest woman I've ever known was a UNIX developer. She was a very, very good programmer, did NOT flirt , and would easily stand-down any man treating her as less than the great programmer she was. Ahh, if only she could've seen something in me...

Overclocking is kind of a useless pursuit, like trying to make a car run 9s in the 1/4mile. Not to say that it isn't fun, or that it doesn't save you money, just that when you look at it, often the time you spent messing with it could have been spent making money to just buy a faster chip to begin with. If you enjoy it, which I do, its not a big deal, but if you're not trying to have the fastest computer theres no real point to it. This is why a lot of girls don't really take an interest in it, because they won't gain much from it.
I think its also because most girls don't seem to interested in racing stuff, or at least they're not trying to race the same stuff as guys.

(obviously I have made some generalizations, if these offend you understand that they are merely based out of my limited knowldge of the female gender and I mean no harm)

ok, so woman dont tend to overclock, perhaps you should reflect on why men overclock.. why do we? with such little yield and disappointment i guess you can say its no wonder why women dont overclock.....
so why do we overclock??
is it because we love to play around with our toys? perhaps we love to DIY stuff
or because we lack the social skill to have anymore a complex relationship with anything more than a cpu???

we could buy better hardware instead of going for cheaper and then ocing it.
why do we do that? do we like to hope for the underdog?
or put our hopes, talents and ideas to the test in oredr to triumph over superior hardware...
why do we do it?????

It's not the end result of overclocking that I live for. I certainly like having the fastest clocked machine on the block, but it's the thrill of the hunt that keeps me interested. When I'm done overclocking a computer I try to change everything again.

Women, girls, females don't generally seem to be as interested in the hunt as the end result.

i disagree, if you go back into the first aims of overclocking.. it was to make cheaper stuff go faster than the top of the range stuff...
why? cos the oc'ers couldnt afford the new range stuff all the time.
but now it seems that the roots are lost.. we no longer look to make our cheap stuff oc. we look to buying the most recent and most top of the range stuff out there and then hammering it to hell just to get a higher oc..
overclocming has become more and more expensive and i just think that it has lost the initial concept of why we overclock...
but yeah this is totaly off topic!

I don't OC because my primary rig is a laptop (what's the point?) and I'm not allowed to touch chillys rig, which has all the really cool stuff (X800XT video card, p4 3.6Ghz, OCZ Memory, etc) and all our other rigs are not suitable. OCing is not a passion like football and writing are, but just because I don't, doesn't mean I don't like hardware.

As for why more girls don't OC, it's probably because we're trained from birth not to get excited about "mechanical" type things -- god forbid we appear unladylike! ;)

I think a lot of it has to do with practicality. Women are just more practical than men. My wife can't understand why I just spent $3000 on a new computer system..."Why does it need to go so fast?" But she's interested in watching and learning as I put it together.

I managed to get lucky in some ways...she's gorgeous and her two favorite subjects are high-energy physics and exothermic chemistry...if it goes BOOM she loves it (YES, I am a VERY good boy around home..LOL).

But back to the point...If the thing turns on and does what she asks of it..she's happy. That's all she cares about it for...it's a means to an end.

I agree with her more and more, i'm so pissed now cause one of my hard drive is failing and i've spend the whole day trying to recover the lost data and it makes want to throw the whole thing out of the window
I've lost a whole day while i'm overboard with work but i need a fully working comp to work. If i buy a powerbook and i find it better than pc then i might never go back on pc except for having some fun with the hardware and some games

why? cos the oc'ers couldnt afford the new range stuff all the time.
but now it seems that the roots are lost.. we no longer look to make our cheap stuff oc. we look to buying the most recent and most top of the range stuff out there and then hammering it to hell just to get a higher oc..
I see your point, but overclocking cheap stuff no longer gives bragging rights. Sure SAE's Athlon XP is amazing, but no one gives a crap when it's put beside a 2.8GHz stock cooled FX-55. Overclocking now consists of getting high end stuff and overclocking it to perform how next month's stuff will at stock clocks.

And speaking of women, I don't want to go out with/marry a geeky female. I want to have my computer for myself. I just don't like competition that way. I want a nice girl that will let me have my toys, and I will let her have her 60 pairs of shoes and matching purses for each of them. :)

We forget that women DO practice the black art 0f overclocking (in a weird twisted sort of way that i'll try to explain)

Instead of bettering their computer systems, some of them work to better themselves.

imagine if a CPU was a pair of boobies, they may get implants to make them bigger, which inturn increases pulling power, like going from 32A (celeron) to 36D (3.73EE) us blokes know what we prefer between the 2 mentioned :D then they take their 36D's and apply a nice fancy bra to get a bit more pulling power out of them (few more Mhz)

they'll get a gucci handbag and some expensive shoes the same way we'll get a fan controller and cold cathode kit, it all seems relative to me.

the bottom line, women tweak their appearance the same way we tweak our computers, which is not a bad thing :)

yes i know i'm insane

I managed to get lucky in some ways...she's gorgeous and her two favorite subjects are high-energy physics and exothermic chemistry...if it goes BOOM she loves it (YES, I am a VERY good boy around home..LOL).

Bah. I never knew those existed! :slobber:

After reading this, im wondering what my GF would think of learning to overclock.. :D

My girlfriend is interest in overclocking and learning stuff from me. Unfortunately, I'm a n00b so dont think she'll learn a lot :D
