For some reason there is a little fear about propane. I realy cant justify the fear as it would be sealed but...

If you construct your system correctly, leak test, and pull a vacuum theres no issues whatsoever? :). I have had my main rig running on propane for a few months now with no issues, leakage, or anything. Also, if it did leak out as long as it wasnt in an enclosed space youre fine, there isint eneough propane in these small systems to reach the lower flammability limit.
btw you need licenses to get r507,r404a,r22 (those were the ones mentioned above) unless pcice is willing to give it to you without one :D

scary. Which gases are pretty much safe to the ozone?
All HFCs and all HCs. Hydroflurocarbons the refrigerants that's usually used(r134a and so on) and Hydrocarbons R290 and so on.

Its a few oz worth. Worst case it leaks and makes your room stink. If the unit explodes it'll be from pressure, not combustion, and that'll happen just as easily with R22 as with 290.
Not saying you should use 290, but its dirt cheap and doesn't hurt the ozone layer, which makes it a good choice for experimenting (you can just vent it when you're done), and given common sense its not particularly dangerous. At least relative to similar refrigerants.

If built correctly there is no reason to be scared when using flammable gases

Just wondering, how is r290 compared to r134a, r404, and r507 performance wise?
alot better then r134a not as good as r404a and r507.
134a -29c,290 -42c,404a -48c,507 -49c
these arent exact but are in the right ball park.

What are gases that are HFC and HC that aren't toxic? And works with a single, double, or triple stage?

R290 -42
R404a -46
But Propane is much easier on the compressor than R404A with high side maxing out around 170PSI vs. 250PSI with 404A. And The preformance is suprisingly similar.
i dont particularly enjoy the smell but its bearable. my parents cant stnad it and all doors have to be closed or else they claim they can smell it around the house.

R290 labgrade is about 120 for a 35 lb cylinder and has no odor. ( the smell is a substance called mercaptin and is added for safety's sake) All of the Florocarbons are available in calf and well as most of eh Cloro and Cloro/floro carbons, and teh hydrocarbongasses/ zThere is a requirment for certification in the US and there is usually testing available locally at most refrigeration supply com[anies and I have heard it mentioned that there is also testing and study guides on line also.

What about the normal propane you get everywhere very cheap? I used it in my latest single stage and I'm quite happy with it.
lol malachia :p:

How much propane would you need for a single stage(non-cascade) dual evap, 1hp system for cooling cpu and gpu?
