Ok i do have an issue here so to start since i do know this WILL lead to a ban i would appreciate it if Kazoo you would email me with a reason as i wont be able to see what is posted, now on to what i want to say
I have bin here for a couple months now and have posted 152 posts and yesterday after wishing Saaya a Happy B-Day i recive a pm stateing that i MUST remove my link in my sig *see sig* or i will be warned and then banned now i have seen a lot of people with links to sites in there sig and i know not every last one has emailed you asking it is ok or not shoot i have even pm'ed Kazoo twice with sig enabled and she never said anything about it untill 9am today which is after Saaya REMOVED the link and warrned me. Now i know it is a rule but i dont see it fair that no one can support what they have, like my site i have put a lot of work in it and im proud of it so why should i be punished for my enjoying my site and wanting to share it with others? Is it that you dont like the color or the way im focussed on benchmarking i would appreciate a anwser but seeing how i will be banned i ask who ever bans me if they would send me a email to anwser my questions but i wont remove it as it is my pride and joy.
Sorry and good day

Theres an easy way to solve this. Under userCP/edit profile theres a space for "my home page". Place the link there, as many people have. That will allow people to visit your site, if they wish, by clicking your name and clicking the link. By having it in your sig its like having a banner, with free promotion for your site. By starting this thread you've just brought even more attention to it, and have only angered people more.

Well you might as well tell every one such as tictac and OPB to do the same as they are takeing all your guests

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/announcement.php?f=120&announcementid=33

4. We do not permit advertising of any kind. This includes offering items for sale or trade (other than in the Classifieds), posting your Homepage or EBAY URL, a URL to another site, or announcements of new sites; this applies equally to commercial and private sites/ads. This is also not to happen within user signatures. Links to deals available on-line are to be posted only in on-line deals and sales.

17. PMs are just that, private mail. Any member posting a PM to the boards without express prior written permission from the site owner(s) will be immediately dealt with, and the post will be deleted.

23. Signatures should have a letter size of 4 max, and the entire sig including all orb links, system description and pics shall be no larger than 250Hx550L pixels. Only legal links in a signature will be links directly related to XtremeSystems, Xtreme Folding @ home and any affiliated website or organization, or a non-profit site to help members, such as heatware or links to mods. Links to your home site, e-bay, or any other site are not allowed. Exceptions to this rule may be granted at the sole descretion of XS Administrators for a reasonable request.

By posting in the Forums, you acknowledge you have read this entire page and agree with these terms of usage. If you do not agree to abide by these simple rules, please log off now.

I know nobody ever reads that (today is actually my first time *gasp*) but when rules are given or implied they should be followed. If you are asked to do something, do it. Toss a few PM's back and forth and maybe something will be decided later (the mods do have their own forum where stuff like this is discussed between them).

I dont see anything wrong with either of their signatures.

I too have noticed a lack of consistancy in regards to links to other sites in people's sigs and posts. Opp's sig has a link to LN and my sig has a link to mozilla.org yet they both have been there for months/years and no one has said anything to me. Sometimes topics in the chat section that have links to other sites are removed because they are external links, but most of the time they are left alone. I don't get why either.

Edit:
550 pixels is the maximum length for a sig, yet STEvil's sig is 600 pixels. I am just saying, most of the time the signature rules seemed to be ignored here.

PS2pcGAMER and confuzzedintel - Show respect and you get just that in return. Advocating a web browser in your sig doesnt go against XS in any way so there is no need that you should change it.

I would say they are not lax about signatures rules at all, actually. I know i've been asked to change mine from time to time, and I have complied. If I am asked to resize my signature image I will, but so far nobody has complained to the best of my knowledge so its a non issue.

Show respect and be respected.

umm you are also supporting XS in your sig ;) as i am not and it says any link it dosnt say web browser links are ok unless you mean or organization, or a non-profit site to help members, such as heatware or links to mods. well in that case they should have no problem with my link as it is NON profit and it is to help members.

yes, my sig supports XS.. what has that got to do with this discussion?

Your link is to your own private forums but goes against XS in that anything you do there could have been done in the forums here.

I'll agree that the mozilla link maybe does break rule #4, but again a lot of this is about respect and using common sense.

Sorry if it seems i'm getting blunt, but this really is a non issue. Disrespect the rules and there are consequences.

well i know you may think this is a silly issue but to me its not silly so i will not be happy till i get a legit anwser from a mod as my site is to help others and is non-profit

Confuzzedintel. I get tons of PMs everyday, so normally I don't take the time to read the sigs in those PM's. If I had seen it, I would have asked you to remove it, per forum rules. The place for links to your home page is your profile, not your sig, as CTKP was kind enough to explain. As to why you are not allowed to have it, that should be pretty obvious. No one here wants to have to wade through 6 inches of sigs to read a 4 word post. If sig links were allowed, trust me it would be totally out of control before you could blink. At the same time, no moderators here are "sig police." That means when a link is noticed, one is politely asked to remove it -- but they don't spend their time hunting sig violators. So yes, occassionally a sig could theoretically have a link for a few weeks without anyone ever noticing.

As for Opp -- he has permission. This is occassionally granted by the site owners, and is completely at their descretion. OBP was asked to remove the link in his sig and did. TicTac as a VIP, also has permission and generally links to things that benefit all members.

Now, I will not ban you for discussing this, however as you've also broken another rule by posting a PM to the boards (your current sig) without permission, that may change. Since it was Saaya's PM you posted, I'll leave that to him to decide. I have, of course, edited that content.

Lastly I will recommend that you read the forum rules. They are posted at the top of every forum. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for replying now since it seems saaya will more then likely ban me *90% chance* this will be my last post here i do have a couple more suggestions one thing i have noticed is that unless you bin here for over a year everyone treat you like shat and i know of 6 members here that dont appreciate it you might think about working on that rule a little more because it is worse then my sig and will drive away prospective members. now as for this No one here wants to have to wade through 6 inches of sigs to read a 4 word post. If sig links were allowed, trust me it would be totally out of control before you could blink. you COULD limit the sig charicters to a certin amount like all the other forums do then you would have to worries about sig links also that dosnt really anwser my question so if i take out all my specs and just put my link in that would be fine? thats basicly what you are saying also if you do hve a prob with links in sigs you might as well just disable URL all together because it will never stop. And just one more thing 21. This site is accessible to minors and therefore any link to, or post, which contains inappropriate material, will be immediately removed, and the poster subject to immediate loss of posting privileges in our forum. well wouldnt your sig with the guy holding a gun at the cat be under this rule as it is kinda inappropriate?

And to that I reply, why should you get away with it when thousands of other members follow the rule and put their homepage link in their profile? When other's break rules they receive warnings too. Or do you really believe you are the only person on the forum to ever have received a warning from a moderator?

confuzzedintel

Ok im sorry i cant help it lol this is great
why should you get away with it when thousands of other members follow the rule well that is something you should think about as well with your sig as your rules say 21. This site is accessible to minors and therefore any link to, or post, which contains inappropriate material, will be immediately removed, and the poster subject to immediate loss of posting privileges in our forum. which is inappropriate.
as for this
Or do you really believe you are the only person on the forum to ever have received a warning from a moderator?
nope never did but if i should fallow every rule so should you and every one els and if it takes two months to catch onto things i think you need some more mods.

Kazoo
02-13-2005, 03:00 AM
My sig is not inappropriate. Nor do we need to "catch up" on things. Things are just fine. You, otoh, obviously don't "get it" or maybe you're just trying to get banned. Whatever, I have better things to do then argue with childishness.

indeed, thats what i am here for :D

confuzzedintel, if you would have asked kazoo or fugger to approve the link in your sig they might even have allowed it and none of this would have happened.

even after you put it in your sig you could have gotten things straight by talking to me or kazoo, instead you posted a public thread but kept asking for a mod to reply. if you have a problem with a decision made by a mod never make it public but try to solve it via pm/email, or contact another mod.
