The vapochill LS is a pretty nice little package IMO, but I was wondering if it would be cost effective to build a knockoff of it. You can buy the skin kits for less than $100, so I was wondering if I could get the same compressor, and condensor that Asetek uses and build my own? Are the compressor and condensors available individually, or are they proprietary units? Yep, I am pretty much a phase change n00b, but would love to start a project like this to learn.
Thanks

u can build a custom DD and then put it inside the vapo shell
just get a 1/4hp compressor and a small chilly1 condensor

Cool. Ok now dont shoot me, but what is DD exactly? Direct die? If thats the case, it wont work on CPUs with IHSs?
Thanks

DD=direct die and yes it WILL work on CPUs with IHS.

Heres another dumb question... What other types of systems are there besides DD? Is the term DD a generic label for anything single stage(non-cascade)? Thanks for the help. I have been reading stickies and guides for a few hours now, but its alot of info at once, so I may miss some stuff :) Also, does chilly1 have a website where I can order a small condenser, or is it a PM kind of thing? Finally, where do I buy a compressor? I checked e-bay and froogle to no avail. Im searching for a Danfoss like the Vapochill LS uses. I plan on maybe using r404, but I may start with 134a as Im pretty sure I can get that without a license.
Thanks for the replies.

yes dd means that the evap cools the processor (cpu or gpu)
cascade is when it cools HX, and chiller a water res, etc.
to buy chilly condensor go to the for sale/gen hardware section i think
