View Full Version : OCZ Plat Rev2 or Gskill ? what diff LE/LA/LC ?
Hi
guys im in the market for some ram, I was planning on waiting some more since I dont really have any cash + was hoping prices might drop a bit, but since I heard TCCD is going out I understand prices will go the other way, dang it
so right now Im looking at either OCZ Plat Rev2 or Gskill (but I cant figure out the gskills markings, I mean they are all tccd whats the diff then ? besides spd, but when do we use spd ? :))
can someone help me understand and choose ?
maybe a different brand ? how about mushkin lev2 v2 ? (I like the price)
also I found some mushkins special (the bh6 modules) maybe these ?
please help, really important as I wont be able to upgrade again for months to come (last upgrade was in 03 :()
Thank you
Dan

I would say Gskill LA 1GB kit, as all of those I have seen performed "magically" :)
Even though rated at 2T, I easily managed DDR600 2,5-4-3-7 1T Most people manage DDR600 3-4-4-8 1T without any problems.
My testing, just like to add they are Prime95 stable at 305 2,5-4-3-7 1T ;)http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=709684#post709684

LA is also rated 2-2-2-5 1T. It's only the higher clocks which are different. With both sticks its a gamble, but the chance of obtaining these results is quite high, or so it seems to me. :)
I havent really tried 2-2-2 as I'm going for high FSB mainly. Also good to know that I have some good TCCD before they discontinue them ;)
I'll try 2,6(5) Vdimm to see if it helps.

so why not LC then ? sure are cheaper, can someone confirm that gskill handpicks best chips for LE and LA ?
2.65 ? what are you using now ?
Thanks
Dan
P.S. if its not too much trouble could you try lower fsb at 222 ? Im asking as I would like to get some universal ram, my cpu currently does 275fsb but if I upgrade later on I may get lower fsbs and would like to run 222

GSkill site seems to be down for me atm.. but on there Jack explains the process that is used in determining what sticks get what model, ie LC, LE, LA, LB ect...
I currently have a LA 512 kit and I finaly found a 1gb LA kit which is now on it's way to my house.
With the 512 LA I'm doing 312x8 @ 2.5 4 3 7 100% stable and no errors. Just fyi tho, to get those timings u must mess around with all the other timings and not just those basic ones. Takes time but u can find the sweet spot.
If you're still looking when I get my 1gb kit LA in next week I'll let u know how it performed.. and yes it is expensive but I wanted the best and don't feel like playing the buy/return game!!

Yeah, all the other timings are rather confusing as on my trusty Abit NF7-S I never had anything of that sort :(

I've been learning them, started out by reading about them and then checking out what other ppl were getting and seeing their a64 tweaker pics..
I switched to the 2.09 beta bios and I have pretty much been using oskar wu's settings for the other timings.

Ok, looks like I'll do that too.
Im using Oskars BIOS too :) My CPU tops out at 290*8 1,4 though :( Not much..
nice results guys, nice results, too bad I have to substract 10-20mhz to know the approx they will do on Intel chipsets :( anyone know whats the deal ? the integrated amd controller ?
KGarcia yes please let me know what the 1gb kit does, I dont think I'll have the money for ram for another few weeks :(
by the way did you try running them at lower clocks at 222 timings ?
Thank you
Dan <<< genuine tester, will try every combination of timings if I have to :)
PS so no other brand eh ? by the way is it me or did the Gskills go up in price recently ?
