acid? i thought they just cut it....
hmmm i never did any melon art (not with those types of melons anyways ;))
so i thougt you would need to use acid to remove just a thin layer of the skin, so its still dark green but not as dark as the outer skin :)
guess your right and it was just knifed.

Forgive me for my somewhat nieve interpretation, but this is a form of Japanese art, right? I would seem (to me) that the carvings look very similar to origami that I have seen... perhaps I am foolish, but it is awe-inspiring nonetheless.
