View Full Version : My VX are a "sucky pair" ?
installed my DFI NF4, 3500winnie,120xp today
25c idle never over 42c load
at 3-3-3-12 on "auto" in the bios @ 2.6v default, I run memtest no errors, but if I put the voltage to 2.8v I get like 3 errors in like 2 mins, If I put it to 3.2v still on latency 3-3-3-12 red errors just keeps spamming down real quick on mem test, I can change my latency on 3.2v to 2-2-2-10-7-15 still get lots of errors...
well I tryed to OC also,, I can get 225fsb (2480mhz) fine - (superpi 34secs and 3dmark03 - 13,540 stable)
but at 230FSB @ 2-2-2-10-7-15 isn't stable crashes superpi 1m straight away and 03 quick..
Also put my multiplyer down to 10x and tryed 230fsb still wasnt stable, so its not my cpu holding back...
lots of mem test errors when oc'd also, does the mem test errors really matter if its game stable ect??
is it my mobo, psu, or my VX ram that sux ???
Flip to the 5v line and give those rams some volts. give em at least 3.2v
musk
:stick:
what most voltage I can give em with out like active cooling ??
hmmmm, switched to 5v to get upto 4v vdimm.....
I get mem test errors @ 3-3-3-12 @ 2.8v, 2.7v no errors
put vdimm to 3.3 and 3.4v with 2-2-2-10-13-16, still cant get more than 230fsb
:/ my psu or ram ??

test each stick to see if you got a bad one and give it 3.5v i don't have active cooling on mine yet but runs fine at 3.5v.

Mem controller?

i would suggest letting memtest loop on test 5 or 6 for a while at the highest you can go without errors....by a while i mean 8-12 hours and then see how much higher you can go...

VX really shine after being burnt in for a while. I started my VX at 2-2-2-5 timings and 3.2v found the highest stable memtest #5 setting and let them burn for 20 passes. Went back into bios, raised the htt/fsb up 2 mhz and did it again. Once you find it stop scaling and start to error try to bump the voltage up to 3.3v and repeat the process. Gradually you'll find the max htt/fsb when you get the voltage to 3.5-3.6v. If you get to a point where you see voltage only helping the errors a little, you'll need to change tras. Around 250 mine need the tras to 9 or higher, but they don't like anything higher than 12.
I'm on a MSI K8N Neo2 Plat so I don't have all the bios settings that you do. I only have the main 4, you have a lot more. Give me a few minutes and I'll look at some DFI posts and get you a list of settings to put everything at.
yeh,, i know what you mean about burn in, but no matter what the highest timings & 200 FSB,, It gets memtest errors at 2.8v ....
I'lll try em with one stick

You are talkin' 2.8v, heck I don't think mine with even boot with that voltage. Honestly you need at least 3-3.2v before you really can use them.

Here's timings to try: TCL-2, TRC-7, TRFC-16, TRCD-2, TRRD-2, TRAS-10, TRP-2, TWR-2, TWTR-2, TRTW-2, TREF-7.8us, Bypass Max-7x
Try those settings and see what you get. From my experience my vx doesn't like slack timings.... So if 1 timing is off, I'll get errors in memtest.

Yeah mine were VERY finnicky before I got them on the right timings, they wouldnt do 220 at 2-2-2-10 butr now they're doin 255 at 2-2-2-6 at 3.2v
The Burn in does help ALOT
I just recived a 3200+winnie and its memesting stable at 267fsb where my old newcastle stopped at 260, so memory controller make a huge difference.
One tip is to NOT use 4708/1.95us 166 mode for the tref...VX hates it.
I just tryed one stick of my VX in single channel
279 | 2-2-2-8 stable at 3.3v no errors on mem test !!!
but it doesnt boot into windows I get black screen :/
I did 270 @ 3.3v @ 2-2-2-8 and superpi got a error
I did 265 @ 3.3v @ 2-2-2-8 and superpi passed
I lowerd multi to 9x to get the high FSBs
right now, i just run 240*11 @ 2640mhz - superpi stable but not 3d03
im running 235*11 now 2585mhz superpi and 03 stable
how come my VX runs 279FSB 2-2-2-8 MEMTEST stable ???? and not boot into windows ?? i think i need to tweak my latency and add some voltage to get even more !! or is it my mem controller on my winnie ??
But i mean, i put it to 2.8v at 3-3-3-12 no errors with this 1 stick, when I did that in dual channel, it gave me lots of errors,, my other VX must be a bad stick which im going to test now.. :)
So if 1 timing is off, I'll get errors in memtest.
i'll try them,, but gonna test my other stick now...
but I get 279 FSB stable on Memtest with 1 stick,, 280 = lots of errors,,
but it doesnt boot in windows,, does that mean it need more voltage,, its not really stable at 279fsb??? was all on 3.3v
most I seen is 275fsb on VX :)
So my VX can't really do 279fsb even tho its prime stable or is it my mem controller or something..

The highest stable that I can boot into windows is 260, but I can go up to 265 using clockgen. My mem controller is holding me back I believe. So we'll figure that all out when the time comes.
So my 1stick of VX that gets mem stable @ 3.3v only @ 2-2-2-8 @ 279FSB has the record for VX or up there lol ? its just coz my mem controller holding me back ??

Well, I would say you need to test the 2nd stick. Could be that one isn't up to par. Besides that it could take a few days before your sticks really start to shine.
I just tested my other stick, it's just like in dual channel, no matter the timings, my VX produces errors in memtest at 2.8v + !
this is a bad stick of VX :-( 2.7v no errors
2.8v - 8 errors
3.2v - hundreds..
no matter the timings..
I used the same timings as my other stick before that was fine "3.2v - 235fsb - 2-2-2-10"..On this stick just produced LOTS of errors.. basicly its Voltage Sensitive rather than extreme... so it looks my second stick of VX ram is a bad stick :(
my other stick is fine like it should be
My second bad stick is holding down my overclock and producing mem test erros:(
I should be able to swap the bad stick at ocz if I send it back to em ?

I'll see what I can do for you, I think Andy is around somewhere.... I'm not sure if they'll just replace the 1 stick or the kit itself, but I'll definitely point someone here.

post in the ocz section or contact bigote or andyocz direclty via pm :)
please make sure its the stick though and try it in another system if possible, but i guess you dont have another rig that can go to 3v+ vdimm ...

nope.. my 2nd pc cant do over 2.9v and is a 2600XP w/ DDR 333, my mobo wouldnt even support 200fsb+
but im sure its that stick..
Well, I pm'd Andy

Just email me, it sounds like one stick has has some ESD issues or something. We'll get you an RMA going.
