I have been looking in to phase change cooling for quite some time now. Now that I have some free time I figured I'd give it a shot and build my own system. I acquired a small compressor out of an old fridge I had sitting in the garage and I plan to use my drill press to mill out my own evaporator, or build an evaporator using a thin plate of copper and a copper "cap". I"m pretty much ready to go, but I don't know what type of refridgerant or oil to use with my compressor, i"ve tried looking it up using google, but I havent had any luck. Below is the information located on my compressor, and images of the compressor. If anyone could help me in identifying the parts I have as well as their specifications, it would be greatly appreciated.
Located on the top on the compressor- "k619" and "6944"

Located on a stamped metal sheet on the side of the pump:

G E 05 67 215961 AE2ZA7
V 115 C60 LRA 14.6
V 100 C50 PH1 424
not really sure what any of it means, but if somsone could give me any information, i"m sure it would be very helpful :)
Thanks,

Hmm, cant find anything on it... But from the LRA rating I would guess it to be around 1/10th hp.. (This is just a guess, but from what I have seen of other compressors I think its a good guess). As far as oil and gas goes what gas do you have available to you? Regardless of oil it would be your best bet to drain it and replace it with fresh oil, since it looks like the pipes are open to the air..

I edited the compressor pic and massaged the pixels.. This is the location of the model number the top number is the BOM a Tecumseh dealer with old books can look that up but the number here I think is AEB447 which would be 4700 BPU compressor but I don't think I am reding this correctly.. that would be a 1/3 hp. You sure of the number????? Got a better pic?

To me it looks like either AEB747 or AEB7A7?? Don't know though...

Sorry about the terrible pics, I have a cheap 3.1 MP HP digital camera, LOL.
anyway, here's a slightly better image:

I managed to get a better look at it, and cleaned it a bit more, and it's actually AE8ZA7 (not AE2ZA7)
I beleive it may be a TECUMSEH MODEL # AE8ZA7 (HP 1/8), thats just from googleing. I couldn't find much more on it.
I'm not too sure if 1/8th HP will be enough, i see alot of people have compressors ranging from 1/3HP up to about 1HP. Will this compressor be able to do the job? If someone could give me a bit of info, it would be great. I"m not too sure what refridgerant to use either. I suppose I could always just buy a new compressor, but I"m "on a budget" right now, haha, trying to limit my computer spending :P

Thank you for all of your replies everyone, it's been very helpful. I"m sure this compressor should be good enough for my "first shot" at phase change cooling, I"m not realy looking for huge numbers at the moment, just something to play with, and see if I can do it. If i"m successful with little guy here I"ll move onto a more powerful DD phase change cooler.
