View Full Version : Insulating
Well, after being bugged by a guy at school I've decided to take out my phase change setup and agian try and hook it up to my Pc (had many problems with condesation last time :(). If i follow the guide on http://phase-change.com/index.php?action=Articles_page&cat=Guides&id=25&page=3
should i be fine condensation wise? :( Im rather scared at this point.

all that grease makes me sick..it's so not needed if you know what your doing..and then when you'r done you dont have all that mess to clean up or push onto who ever buy's you'r mobo or chip.
told that years ago but nobody listens :D

Yep agree with that
i never use grease etc.
Only time i DO use grease, is on DI runs because insulating is very hard. But that's only in the socket (to at least save the cpu) and nowhere else.
I use plastic coating on the board (invisible) and liquid electrical tape (damn, that's some nice stuff, it coats very nicely and when your done, you pull it off like a mask).

Here's Starbrite Europe Index Catalog (http://www.starbrite-europe.com/index_cat_en.htm) and click on distributors network. Product is also called liquid electrical sealant. :)

What causes the cpu pins to deter ate over long period of time but when I use the hated grease it doesn’t happen is it due to moisture or is this something else my 2cents worth

So you dont need to fill the socket area with grease? What is your method then for inulsating.
Cheers

Pro m1 had it for somewhere around 2 years now. the first CPU I installed it on AMD 1800 with no grease installed I used it for 7 to 8 months till it died because over voltage I beleave but the cpu pin were pitted and really look bad. and then went to AMD 64 3200 no grease ck after 4 months started see sighs of pin deteriorating yank the cpu put it into another air cool system but it still works to this day so I upgrading my system mod m1 to 507b 10 deg colder then before I use a new AMD 3700 I filled the socket completely with Permatex Dielectric grease 5 months later pull it down to do some more mods to m1 cpu pins have no pitting or pin deteriorating. I always used same procedure to seal on every application but the last time I used the grease on socket of cpu and never understood what was causing cpu pins to pit and deteriorating if it was from moisture or something else.

Where did you get this liquid electrical tape?
my experience with most distributors of it is that they tend to overprice the stuff. A local distributor here asks 20-25 euro for a small can (4 OZ) while it's a lot cheaper over here-> http://www.shipstore.com/search?search=liquid+electrical+tape
this is the place where epsilon and I got it from.
