I wanted to get everyones opinion on which set up they think would give better performace when overclocked.
I am considering the a64 mobile processor with 1M l2 cache, 3000+
or the socket 939 3000+ 90 nm chip.
so it seems to come down to 1M cache vs the dual channel memory controller. which is better?
I dont really care about future-proofing so we can avoid that discussion.
Take it easy,

Clawhammer in my view. Thought you'd be better of trying to find a recent 3400+ DTR, as they seem to reach 2.7ghz easily now. Not to mention the DFI Nforce 3 rocks, i assume you wouldn't go Nforce 4, if you went 939?

Interesting question to me as well. the The 3400+ at 2.4 Socket 754 is alot cheaper than the next 939 2.4GHz AMD if I recall correctly. I was just thinking/looking at this yesterday.

well the way i see it is...
a winny clocked at 2700mhz is equal to a clawhammer at 2500mhz (the 1mb cache compared to the 512kb) so it give about a 200mhz difference...
go for whichever is cheaper aswell :)

i would be sticking with nf3 either way.
It seems like they both give the same overall benefit, although it probably depends on the app. everyone always says more cache is better for gaming. so for a budget gaming rig, the mobile 754 would probably be a better bet. thoughts?

If you do not care about futureproofing, then go for the mobile with the larger cache :).
Dual channel, does not outweight the benefits of twice the cache.

get the mobile. Performance should be greater with 1Meg, and less hastle with winnies memcontroller, which for me was crappy compared to newcastles and clawhammers i have owned

DTR is NOT mobile ;)

I have a 3000+ DTR that i haven't used yet, the person i bought it from was doing 2.5ghz on an xp-120, and he was memory limited...so with good ram, i'm hoping to hit 2.6ghz on an xp-120. If i can't sell my mach1 i'll probably end up getting 2.8 out of it. Just remember it's 1T only and overall the cache makes up for 200mhz.
