I was down at the local Staples a couple of days ago playing with a Toshiba A70-SC1 laptop that has the CPU.
3333 MHz, adjustable multipliers from 11x-25x, E0 stepping and Socket 478...:slobber:
I almost bought the damn laptop just to give the CPU a try in my desktop board...but I came to my senses in time...this upgrade itch is getting pretty bad to buy an entire laptop just for the CPU.
Damn you Intel, quit selling this CPU only to OEM's and let us buy this CPU separately!!!

maybe you could get one from an OEM...you know someone who works for HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc? sometimes chips show up on Ebay.

I've been scouring the likely hideouts...no luck. The best that's available separate from a laptop is a 3.2 GHz D0...:(
I've been pestering Intel's sales dept about this too...to no avail. Their response is, "I'm sure it will be released soon."

This (http://google.com) seller was selling E0 mobiles (SL7NA), for whole 9 days nobody interested. Personally I don't think E0 stepping is any better than others so I didn't buy it.

The E0s run cooler so thats a plus and OC slightly higher it seems...but no point in it (at least for me) to run out and get a E0 if I were to have a D0 (I don't)

The Pentium 548 is the ONLY E0 stepping mobile processor, ATM (at least according to Intel's spec finder).
Which is why I want one...;)

This (http://developer.intel.com/design/pcn/Processors/D0104051.pdf#search='SL7NA') document says there are three E0 mobiles.

i've been looking for this cpu since it was announced.. but with no luck..
the other mobile e0's probably are a bit worse, because of missing speedstep..

hmmm but on the processorfinder it shows the 2.8A only with OEM product order code but there are quite a number off shops that sold those...
So are these all multiplier unlocked? : http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/list.asp?ProcFam=1025&NoNav=NO&CorSpd=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&MfgTech=6591&step=ALL&cache=ALL&PkgType=ALL&btnFOS=Filter+on+selections
and they fit desktop boards?
*edit* going through that mobile thread in the "best of intel" subforum, it seems P4M's aren't all that interesting unless you have a board that can do insane fsb's because they default to a 12 multi. *edit*

2.8-3.2 fit all 478 boards that can support prescott.
there have been talks that asus newer bios somehow disallow use of mobiles.. especially the ones with HT.
but those D0 step mobiles have only 14 multi (plus supposedly their nominal mult using pin-trick).
but this 3.33 (and soon-appearing 3.46) is gem :P
the mult can't be changed in bios but must be done via software using something to read/write to its registers.
i haven't seen yet anyone to try that and i honestly don't know if bios must first initialialize speedstep..
but if it works, not only mult is software-adjustable, but also the cpu voltage ;)

hmm I think I'll hold off on those untill some more experienced people had a chance to look into it :)

I'm not sure that the multplier can't be changed in the BIOS...the Pentium M has EIST as well and it's multiplier is downward unlocked from the default...the desktop i855 boards allow it to be changed freely in the BIOS.
The same technology is in play with the new P4 Mobile chips...:)
I did check out a P4 3.06 GHz laptop today...and found to my surprise it is indeed an E0. Now to find a laptop with an E0 mobile that has some gumption video card-wise...it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

that's true. but these i855 boards don't change multis in bios in a classical way, but through EIST. and currently (and i believe that never) none of the socket 478 p4 boards support EIST..
