NCQ yes, but i dont think it has Raid5. Raid5 onboard is piontless to me. 0+1 would be good enough.

sill3114 supports raid 5, according to my manual, but the onboard nv sata doesn't.

about NCQ, how do i know if its enabled or not? there isn't like a bios option for it.

what like HD tach?

yea, that would work.

maxtor is almost as fast as a raptor, so bench the maxtor and you can probly see the extra speed.

i did that, i got like 133MB/s burst, and avg speed was like 56. so is NCQ enabled?

yep... 133 is high for only 56 average. ncq will benefit burst speed alot.

i need raid5 cuz 0+1 doesnt offer enough storage. i want more than half the space of my hdds... GRRR guess im stuck buying a controller. :(

how much space are you looking for?

just buy a couple 300gb maxtor sata2's. and use a raptor for your OS drive.

if you buy a card, LSI makes about the best cards but a sata2 raid5 card will cost a poop load.

i already have 4 seagate 160gig sata2 NCQ drives.

2 drives wont yeild any performance gains in raid 1. and i would need more than 2 for raid 0+1 :stick:

You could try this (http://www.tomshardware.com/storage/20041119/)

Depends on the mobo... the Gigabyte SLI board supports RAID 5 and I think the DFI SLI-DR does as well?

the DR does, but thats only on the SI controller which doesnt support NCQ :(

software raid5 is VERY VERY cpu intensive and would seriously hinder system performance. that pretty much rules that out in my book...

:shrug:i guess it looks like ill have to have 0+1 :( makes me sad!

im losing 150gigs of space. :bs: :slash: :brick:

so theres really no way to make the dfi ultra-d do raid5 without a controller? :(

well... would you guys trust 4 seagate sata 160gig drives in raid 0? i trust seagate but i want the security of mirroring.

so am i stuck with 0+1? :(

imaging software is your friend. use acronis or ghost, backups take less than 15min and restores take about the same.

with the amount of junk i have? i would need a few more of these lol

the image would likely be 100gigs in itself :(

WHY do you need to Raid all these so called "junk files"?

if there just storage files, they dont need raid xD

lol, i just have alot of files, and i want to keep them fast and secure.

im going to have a total of the 4 seagates(sata) plus a wd120 and a sg120 ide aswell. right now im using just the IDE and i have virtually no room left.

been thinking... i think i found my answer!

3 disk raid0, + the last disk for holding an image of the data. i can image once a week and be safe enough.

3 disk raid0 is faster than 2 or 4 disk so i gain speed there, plus i get to image protection on the last sata disk. then i also have my 2 pata hdds to use for whatever else i want!

lol!! thats only like 20gi.... wait..

heheh

my main hdd at 120gig is full, ive had to move files to my seconds hdd and delete it off my main! so the 3 160gig drives will be really nice. :)
